Who the else takes a DSLR camera to a football game, you are there to watch, chant, cheer not take arty farty photos.
If you want to do it, become a football press photographer.
I did a short work experience stint at the stadium, and besides.. I do chant, cheer and watch the game same as anyone.
If anything, I can use the lens as a telescope and watch the action at the other end; therefore enhancing my experience.
I'd be the first to bag my camera if asked by the people around me, or the stewards. It's hardly an inconvience to anyone but me. The fact I can keep the pictures for personal use/memories is a bonus. If it wasn't a dslr it'd be a point and shoot, if not that it'd be a phone. I take pictures regardless.
As for your comment about standing games.. I didn't take a camera when I had a season ticket at the old vetch (back when we were 3rd division) because it'd get whipped away or broken. I have the luxury of a seat now, so I use it.
