Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [14th - 18th April 2017]

Still can't get my head around what Guzan's doing for Sanchez's goal. The ball is no where near the corner and he's not even moved - he doesn't react at all.

was thinking the same myself. its not right in the corner and is at a really good height for a keeper and wasn't to pacey. maybe he wouldn't have stopped it but it's not like he had no chance.

Thought we were pretty bad yesterday. Doesn't matter what formation or team we put out really, we always play the same sort of football. We create so few clear cut chances these days and look so susceptible at the back.

Boro have such a mismatch team it's unreal, I think Sunderland will beat them when they face each other. They only have two PL class players in Gibson and Ramirez. Negrado is debatable, he's a luxury striker who doesn't do enough off the ball. Leadbitter and Clayton are just so limited that kids coming through academies can do what they're doing.
Friend, Ayala, Barragan, Guzan, Downing, Fabio, Gestede, Bamford etc just Championship players.
Traore will come good but is one of the dumbest players I've seen when he's done some good on the ball.

Ironically when they get relegated they will spend loads in the summer and have a better team in the Championship than they had starting in the PL. So stupid.

It was painful to watch last night and they still played better than usual standards, Arsenal you could tell were lacking so much confidence.

I caught a bit of Gary Neville's analysis this morning he was crucifying Hazard, basically saying that Hazard was happy to spend the game being marked and didn't move out wide to stretch the United defence. The one time he did move out wide Mourinho was going ballistic because his players weren't in good shape. Why wasn't Conte ordering him to do it? It seems like Mourinho just had United organised better tactically.

Hazard to Real Madrid? He'll be off if they offer the right money. Hazard & Bale with Ronaldo upfront, ridiculous!

I'm amazed more of a big deal wasn't made of this. This is the kind of preferential treatment United get. Why isn't he facing action after the game? Is diving allowed now?

Maybe you're just trying to use the gif to point score the whole 'preferential treatment' thing which I can't be bothered getting into.

Every team has players doing this every game, just like fouls that were bookable not having action taken against them unless they were horrific + enough media outrage?

No. If Leicester win the Ucl 4th misses out....if they dont then no one misses out.

That makes sense right?

Im sure im right lol.
You're not right. Had Leicester won the CL and Utd not won the EL, then 4th would have still qualified. The only way 4th wouldn't have qualified was if both Leicester and Utd won as there is a limit of 5 clubs from one nation now.

Winner of Europa gets a place as well, meaning that if United win Europa and Leicester also win the CL then potentially 3rd and 4th will miss out. Isn't that right? Or are the winner's spots counted as "extra"?

From what I understand you are correct - ie in that scenario both 3rd and 4th miss out (unless Utd get 3rd or 4th however unlikely that is)

What I was thinking was even more confusing - lets say Utd get 4th and so therefore have to do a CL qualifier.....but then win the Europa, and therefore dont have to qualify. Surely this means there is a "spare" team somewhere in europe that doesnt have an opponant to fight for qualification - do they qualify automatically too....even if its unfair on everyone else who does have to go through that quali round or does in this instance mean 5th gets quali place?

You're both incorrect. The rules have changed and that any one country can now have 5 teams qualify. The only way somebody would have missed out would have been if both Utd won the Europa and Leicester won the CL, in which case 4th place would have missed out as you can't have 6 teams.
