Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [14th - 19th October 2011]

Your post says it all; he had the right to go down, that in itself confirms it wasn't the contact that put Adam on the deck it was him choosing to put himself there. I've got no problem with him going down but lets not try and make more of it than what it was, a second yellow for that would have been a joke

Oh, fair point, I was just saying it was a foul :)

Awful performance, will take the result. ****ing sick of us setting up to counter the other team and not playing our best players. Why on earth do we need to have Park on the field to counter Stewart bloody Downing? We wouldn't have thought twice about him if he was still wearing a Villa shirt. I'd have far rather seen Nani up against Enrique who had no defending to do and could get forward at will against our very negative right side.

Do you not get a yellow card for inciting fans and waving imaginary yellow cards?

Ah well, should have won it with plenty of chances and some decent performances.

Yeah, but you should also get yellow cards for ridiculous dives and booting people in the knee. You can't have it all.

First of all, if you're Adam in that situation why would you go down out of choice? He was breaking into the box with a great chance of scoring.

And tripping a player when they're breaking away is nearly always a booking (Lucas on Park on the half way line for example), doing it on the very edge of the area is even more of a yellow.

Yeah Downing should have been booked, wouldn't have had him off the pitch unlike Evra.
You mean Suarez merely caressing Evra's knee and for Evra to cry like a baby and then incite the fans?

End of the day, he wasn't sent off and we weren't given a penalty which was as blatant as they come.

Blatant as they come? Really?

If you give a penalty for that then we get one for the on Enrique. Neither were pens, draw was the fair result :)

Why didn't Fergie start Rooney, Nani or Anderson?

Because he knows that despite saying it was the biggest game, and whether 'Pool fans want to admit it or not, their two games in the CL and against City are more important ;) like last season. You can bet all important players will be starting next Saturday.

LOL.

You mean your comparing one where Evans had his arm away from his body blocking a shot on goal to one bouncing unluckily off Enrique's chest to his arm by his side?

Yeah okay Tom, suppose you'd take the draw happily.

I think every single football fan recognises the game against City being more important at this stage lol.

It wasn't as blatant as they come but it still was a pen.

Not sure how you can compare the Enrique one though. In one instance the defenders has blocked a header from a couple of yards away with an outstretched arm and in the other a player has had the ball kicked at him from point blank range and it's hit his chest and ricocheted onto his arm.

When you're Charlie Adam you go down because you're **** and you know you won't score :p

On the penalty Sky have just shown it again and Evans made no movement towards the ball with his arm, his arm was down by his side and finally he knew nothing about it. I'm pretty sure all that equals ball to hand therefore no penalty.

I'll wait untill I see it again but I didn't think his arm was by his side. As for making no movement towards the ball, that's no longer relevant anymore.

Gary Neville, who you can't deny is somewhat biased towards United, has said that Adam had a right to go down. If Gary Neville says that, I don't see how you can deny that it was a foul!

This is what is wrong with football, if they were men they should only go down if the contact was heavy enough to make them, not just because someone just about touched them (applies to all teams, not just those playing this game).

Tbh Liverpool should have won that, i watched the game and thought they were the much better side throughout the game...Utd were terrible at defending for most of the game so they were lucky to get a draw out of it thanks to Chico bagging the equaliser.

City are up 1-0 against Villa...really want Villa to win but cant see it really...think City go top if they win dont they??.

Nah, Evans arm was away from his side. And he watched the ball onto his arm without making any attempt to move his arm out of the way. Stonewall pen.

Nothing like Enrique's in which his arm was in a natural position and the ball struck it. Seen them given, but would have been harsh.

I also think that Ferdinand being sent off for the second yellow would have been harsh, but technically correct. If there was any more contact, the conversation would be about why it wasn't a straight red, never mind a yellow. He was a very, very lucky boy to stay on. Harsh or not.
