Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [14th - 19th October 2016]

A better question would be how many managers are they going to go through before realising the team is just ****?

I would point out that Alladyce got something like 27 points in the second half of last year with almost entirely the same team. The players that left, the majority played no games in the second half of last season and were on loan or just pushed out of the team. It was basically just Kaboul who left, they've bought more players than they sold players who had a meaningful number of games.

2 points in 8 games is pitiful. I cba'd finding the numbers again but it was something along the last time they had this few points after 7 games Di Canio got fired and the time before that they got relegated.

Considering the position Allardyce left them in Moyes has been nothing short of a disaster so far.

Yes you've pointed that out before, you fail to mention the injury problems there at the moment though. They seem to have been pretty unfortunate, along with West Ham, their injury list has been terrible as well.

No, as per usual you just remember what you want to, I addressed the injury issues.

Billy Jones was used throughout the first half of the season last year when they were rubbish. In the second half of the season he was involved in the very early Villa and Swansea wins then 6th feb was his second last game of the season with one sub at the very end of the season. their form was vastly better without him in the team. Larsson started exactly one game in the second half of last season and most certainly wasn't a main player in the team when it was doing better.

Borini and Cattermole were really the only players who played a significant number of games. Neither were setting the world alight last season or the games they played this season. Are they misses, sure, should they have this much of an effect, not a chance.

Why? You see that all the time, counter attack and the player brings the player without any attempt at playing the ball. It's always a yellow card...until now.

I'm undecided on it, it was relatively minor. But it was the way he did it I think. It wasn't just stick your leg out and trip the guy, enough to make him go down but no where near enough to be deemed a kick, it was closer to a kick. He swung his leg and caught him fairly high up that made it look more like kicking out that just a trip. Kicking out deserves a red, tripping in a professional foul type of way doesn't but there is a distinction between the level of aggression and force that separates them.

Xhaka maybe wasn't all the way over the line, maybe just close to it, but he could have been miles and miles away from that line and given the ref absolutely no decision to make between a yellow and red. It was completely stupid and unnecessary of him to make the trip so strong shall we say.

I fail to see where you've mentioned the injuries, but it would add more credence to your arguments if laid out the picture properly.

Cattermole, Borini, Mannone & Larsson. All of them are pretty key players who played a lot last year in the 1st team. I'd say that's pretty crucial for team near the bottom that don't have the luxury of some of the bigger clubs to rotate.

To come to a club and plant the seed that you are in a relegation battle after only a few games into a new season is a recipe for disaster.

So I didn't mention Cattermole, Borini or Larsson? I in fact pointed out that Cattermole and Borini played a lot in the second half of the season, the latter was meh, the former was frequently terrible and more of a burden than a benefit. Somehow he's 28 but plays like he's 38 in the last year. Larsson you are simply incorrect about, talk about laying out the picture properly, I gave credit to the two players there who played a lot, you are calling Larsson, who started a SINGLE game in the second half of the season (when Sunderland weren't wretched) as a key player who played a lot... one of us isn't being clear and is making excuses and it's not me.

Moyes laid the blame on inexperience in his post match interview. There was a 34 and 35 year old in the starting line up, only 4 players below 25 (I would guess Spurs had a younger average age by a margin throughout last season/this season) and his subs were aged 34, 29 and 28. So if he felt the team was inexperienced maybe he should have started his all star ex Everton line up of Anichebe and Pienaar. Classic meh manager move, bring in ex players to be yes men despite the fact that Anichebe at no stage of his career has looked anything above a league 2 striker and Pienaar has been useless for 2-3 years. Maybe a better manager wouldn't just buy players who will agree with him and would have brought in two players who would actually be of use to the team.

As oldcoals said and I've stated before here and elsewhere, Allardyce had them firmly in midtable(or higher) form in the second half of last season, that was something to build on. Moyes started the season by telling everyone they were in a relegation fight then a few weeks ago had a pop at the board for the club always bringing in managers on a negative note, firing old managers and meaning the new manager was always in a negative position to start with. Despite the fact that he was brought in with a team who were effective and it was him who put the negative spin on the team before the first game even kicked off.

Playing down expectations before the season starts, then blaming other people for negativity when his team are absolutely abysmal after 6 or 7 games when he made the statements.

I don't recall you you saying anything about injuries, find the post where you said that, i'm pretty sure you never did though. They've had a shed load of injuries this season to key players, i always seem to recall Larsson been a half decent player, it's just a fact which has contributed to them finding it difficult so far. West Ham are similar, they've found it difficult because they've had a few key injuries. Sunderland are going into a relegation scrap though, they've been in one for god knows how many years.

Decent start from Boro, but we still haven't really fashioned a scoring opportunity. Pretty typical so far tbh.

1-0 Watford
I can't see us scoring tbh, so wouldn't be surprised to see it finish this way.

We can keep possession and and play nice stuff up until the final third - then we're just a bit clueless.

edit: We really lack pace, we have two absolute speed merchants on the bench in Fischer and Traore - get them on and get behind Watford.
