Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [15 - 17th December 2012]

What's the point in judging someone playing out of position?

Vertonghen is very skillful for a defender and has a great touch for such a big fella, I know that much.

To have a go and single a player new to the Prem, playing out of position, with new team mates, with a new manager, playing a new system, an attacking system.... for conceding goals against the Prem elite... well it's not cricket really is it and doesn't prove much at all?

lol @ the united fans saying how our cb covering at lb got torn to pieces

didn't stop him scoring and us winning

christ. if it's not bale, it's vert.

jealousy shining through.

Haven't seen the game (away on hols), but we really need to sort out the set piece defence.

Oh and I thought play has to be stopped for a head injury? Poor ref.

I thought they changed the rule so it was no longer just head injuries but any injury the referee deemed serious? I could be wrong though...

he didnt know he was a cb proper has no clue thinks he plays lb

Is there any point even having this discussion?

I say I don't rate Vertonghen.
cm1179 pops up with his usual dross "yer but he scored a goal when we beat United lolz"
Tom points out that he got skinned over and over in that game by Nani, who has been **** all season bar 40 minutes of the League Cup game against Chelsea.
Half the Spurs fans say we can't criticise him for the United game anyway because he was out of position (at least some of you are perceptive enough to notice he was crap in the game, cm take note)
Then we can't criticise him because it's everyone else's fault that Spurs are poor at the back.

So basically the conclusion is we can't say anything about Vertonghen unless it's positive. Forgive me if I'm not willing to get involved in that, he is a good player but far from the finished article. He's basically David Luiz but not a **** so people seem to warm to him.

And this is for cm1179:

Tottenham Hotspur's first goal against Manchester United on 29th September 2012 was in fact an own goal (Jonny Evans) and has therefore not been credited to Jan Vertonghen.

ok i understand so you judge someone who is playing out of position

Vertonghen unlike luiz fist season in the prem and when at cb he is good
he is not all that at LB pace does not help him much..

He is very good on the ball going forward and more comfortable at cb
