Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [15th May 2016]

All the Arsenal fans giving Spurs ****, at least they challenged for the title. They gave up once the title was over, you were never in the race.

To be fair I think we're clutching at straws a bit - finishing above Spurs at the moment is all we have left.

10 years ago we were in the running for the league all the time - thats gone.
7 years ago we always had the chance of a decent Champions League campaign - thats gone.
3 years ago we could blame our misfortune on paying off the debt associated with the new stadium and losing all our best players because we couldn't compete financially - thats gone.

Now we have to face up the reality that we're really not going anywhere, and there can be no excuses.

Continuing the run of finishing above Spurs really is the only positive in what I view as a **** poor season for us.

Wow! We just finished 2nd in the league, above all the big teams and managed to finish in front of Spurs again and you seem sad about it all? Lol, sounds like DM.

Well done gunners I say. Now let's go sign a world class ST + CB and challenge for the league next year.

While at it, sell Walcott and Ox. Lol

I was shocked that it's the first time the team have finished second since 2004/05 I think they said.

That's shocking, as a Toon fan I'd take top 4 every year :p as an Arsenal fan though I would be fed up of being the perennial bridesmaid.

Must be a Spurs fan talking here. . .

Only have to look at the user name and replace the 'R' with a 'Y'! :p

And yet Arsenal have only spent 10m more in transfers than Newcastle since 2003. Eeeeshh...

This.

Not only that, here and on social media I have barely seen much about Spurs fans going on about finishing above Arsenal. It's been about the league. Its the Arsenal fans telling us how much it means to Spurs. Now they have finished above them they return to gloat. It seems it means far more to Arsenal fans than Spurs.

lovely goal by drinky today to see us win the league by 10 points. today was a bit of a training ground game tbh we didnt put the usual aggression and tenacity into it and mahrez was trying every trick in the book lol .....but it was about claudio today and chelsea treated him well.

im not sure if arsenal coming second is a good thing ?

does anyone else think it will (as normal) just paper over cracks and problems that have appeared ? and make wenger come out and say not much was wrong this season we just need to tweak it a little , hence just spending a few million on a couple of players .

leicester have already been in for a few players like slimani, wanyama and musa but it seems like it is going to be tough getting quality as we are still seen as little leicester lol

WERE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE MAN WERE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE LOL

Obviously pleased with the result today; if not the conduct of a couple of our players.

Just a shame they pulled the performance out when it no longer mattered.

I'd have traded one of the five today for one last weekend against Villa.

Who was the Spurs fan on Wednesday night who said it was a shame Sunderland won, because they were looking forward to relagsting us today? Karma's a bitch eh? :D

To be fair, they haven't actually felt it....so they wouldn't know :D
You seriously underestimate the rivalry between the 2 clubs.
The past decade or so it has died off some what as Spurs just want challenging.

Haha come on now lad don't be butthurt about us beating u to second, that's 21 yrs since u last finished above us.

This season was definitely not dull at all, was a great season tbh with the way it all changed ie Leicester winning the title...what a fairytale story.

No thanks.

Second is just the first loser anyway. I'm not butthurt at all, we just need to make a few fine adjustments and I'm sure it'll be another strong year next year (in fact I wouldn't mind if we went balls out for the CL and tried to win it and sacrifice trying to win the league).

Arsenal have a much bigger job next year.

The fact it means so much to Arsenal fans to finish above us clearly shows that we've rattled your cage :)

Just imagine your ticket prices had gone up to say £70 a game and the reason for that was Cisse got a new contract at £140k a week.

Yeah top four is better than relegation but it's the frustration of seeing a truly useless player get paid ever more to be exactly as useless as he ever was all while the prices are hiked up over time to pay him more.

I've said before and will keep saying it, failure doesn't worry me, not trying to improve is the absolute killer and is what makes Arsenal so frustrating to watch. They'd prefer to give Walcott a new contract rather than get rid of him and risk bringing in someone new. As an Arsenal fan I'd prefer to see the money go on a player who turns out even worse but who we also then get rid of than keep throwing more and more at players we know aren't good enough.
