Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [15th May 2016]

To be fair I think we're clutching at straws a bit - finishing above Spurs at the moment is all we have left.

10 years ago we were in the running for the league all the time - thats gone.
7 years ago we always had the chance of a decent Champions League campaign - thats gone.
3 years ago we could blame our misfortune on paying off the debt associated with the new stadium and losing all our best players because we couldn't compete financially - thats gone.

Now we have to face up the reality that we're really not going anywhere, and there can be no excuses.

Continuing the run of finishing above Spurs really is the only positive in what I view as a **** poor season for us.

Just for the record, exactly nothing at all changed with Arsenal financially 3 years ago, the debt payments are pretty much identical this year as from the 2nd year at Emirates and every year between and there is another 15 years of payments at roughly the same amount to go.

We haven't sold a player due to requiring cash for debt payments or anything else, the players that left asked to leave, primarily because they all wanted to go on to clubs they believed could win the titles they couldn't win with Arsenal. Henry/Vieira left for champs league, the players since moved just to win the league.

I can't believe we finished above spurs again after our season. I guess the pressure of a title really got to them.

2nd or 3rd wasn't truly concerned over which as long as we didn't drop into forth but it's still nice to be the second best team.

We have the excitement of the summer games and players on show for transfers, hopefully we buy early so we can glimpse what we have coming in next season.

Maybe next year will be spurs year to beat us and who knows, they might not bottle it next year ;)

United v Bournemouth moved to Tuesday

The following statement was released by the Barclays Premier League on Sunday evening regarding the rearrangement of Manchester United's match against Bournemouth...

"We can confirm that today's abandoned fixture between Manchester United and AFC Bournemouth will be played on Tuesday 17 May at 8:00pm.

"We would like to thank Manchester United's staff, the police and other emergency services for all their efforts today as well as rearranging the match for this coming Tuesday.

"Both Manchester ‎United and AFC Bournemouth's management has been extremely helpful in reaching a swift resolution, which is the best possible given today's events.

"The clubs will make their own announcements regarding ticketing arrangements."

Thought it would be Tuesday!

This.

Not only that, here and on social media I have barely seen much about Spurs fans going on about finishing above Arsenal. It's been about the league. Its the Arsenal fans telling us how much it means to Spurs. Now they have finished above them they return to gloat. It seems it means far more to Arsenal fans than Spurs.

LOL oh come on man dont ruin it for us lol, after the rubbish season we have had...let us have this little celebration:p

Mind you finishing 2nd after our pretty rubbish xmas and early 2016 is not bad, highest finish for us in the league since our invincible season.

But finishing above Spurs is always a joyous ocassion, moreso this year because everyone and their dog thought Spurs would finally break that hoodoo ie us finishing above them yet again. I didnt honestly think they would lose today, not against Newcastle and especially after Newcastle going down a man but yet they still smashed Spurs 5-1...dont know what more shocking that they got beat by a relegated Newcastle or that we, somehow again finished above them lol.

Unlike you not being able to answer a simple question. Both is the correct answer, by the way.

Well...lets be honest here. Top 4 and European football is better than relegation. Twice. :p

I'm only messing btw mate, you'll be back in no time.

How many people said that Leicester would struggle with their run in?

Arguably they did - only 1 win from the last 3 games. They just had enough points in the bag already by that point.

A couple of weeks ago I spotted one of the worst odds I've ever seen in a major market; prior to the WBA game Spurs were a quite frankly ridiculous 7/2 to win the league despite being 8pts behind with a game in hand (I'd been expecting something in the 8/1 - 12/1 range). It was obviously way too short because if you manually built up an accumulator of the type of results required to see it happen you got way more than that even with a couple of plausible permutations. Even on Betfair it was 4.69 or thereabouts and had I had any cash in my account I'd have been laying that like there was no tomorrow.

Thinking back as much as the league has been poor overall for us yet again the positives are getting klopp and he has given the academy players lots of chances so be interesting summer in regards to who he keeps or buys, as he might just permanent promote a select few youngsters

Just catching up with the results now.. been out all weekend :D

What on Earth did Newcastle take? Must have been something potent! Shame they didn't take it when it could have mattered.

Well done to City on 4th. Hopefully they can do as well in the CL next season as they did this time, or better.

I'd like to thank Manchester United for taking some of the attention away from Spurs. The money I stuck on Newcastle to win didn't soften the blow. :p

Man United's full squad vs Bournemouth (via MEN): De Gea, Romero, Valencia, Varela, Jones, Smalling, Blind, Borthwick-Jackson, Carrick, Herrera, Mata, Pereira, Memphis, Young, Lingard, Martial, Rooney, Rashford

I'm guessing players like Rooney, Martial etc will start on the bench.

So much for that guess, he's put out a full strength team.
