Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [16 - 17th March 2013]

Another great day for Brentford, very very late winner, Tramere, Sheffield Utd losing and Pompie nicking some points off Doncaster. In an automatic play off slot with only Sheffield able to overtake based on games in hand, and I think we play them next. Now a 4 point gap to Tranmere outside the play off spots and they've played a game more. Dodgy 4-6 weeks since the Chelsea fixture was announced but a good last few games might have just got them back on track for automatic promotion.

Arsenal, I think Monreal was helped by a seemingly very very slow dive from Vorm, but he took a shot and got the goal. Swansea weren't at their best, neither were we, we had some shots but not many were very dangerous. They apparently had none on target but a couple were very close, if that chance in the first half from Michu had gone in we could easily have lost that. Good result though as its a game we could easily have screwed up, I still don't think we'll get top four though... have to see what Spurs do though, capitulate like last year, or Euro games destroy their league form... we'll see.

Diaby was complete cack again, Walcott was completely annonymous, again, Jenks was decent again... once again providing good delivery, good overlapping runs and making good runs offensively. Arteta got yet another really stupid yellow card, he's getting more like Song every game this year. Every game he's getting more liberal with his fouling, worse with his tracking of players, and giving away freekicks in stupid positions.

Villa, nice, Southampton, fantastic, Liverpool, lol. Skrtel is just crap. At 2-1 I thought Southampton might fall apart having had SO many chances to make it a huge gap before then, but no, they did great.

Sociedad also winning 4-1 in the 3pm kick off to take over in 4th in the league and put some pressure on those other teams going for 4th. 2 more assists for Vela, 10 goals and 6 assists in his last 17 appearances, putting in awesome performance after performance, goals/assists against Valencia, Malaga, Barca, Betis. So glad we got rid of him for 3-4mil :(

He's been tidy with his passing which is more than can be said for a lot of players. He's had to cover Giggs being further forwards most of the time as well.

6 pts clear of the drop zone.. Good place to be, i think 6 more points should do. Breathing space at last. Come on newcastle, do us a favour and win.

so only need 13 points (maybe 12 as our goal difference is good) out of the next 27 available to win the league :D

I dont think that allows for the "6-pointer" crunch match in a few games time at OT

If Utd win the next three games (Sunderland away, City@OT, Stoke away) then the next point(s) Utd win , win the league - irrespective of City's matches vs Newcastle & West Brom either side of the OT game.

Utd REALLY need to rejuvenate some of the squad players over the summer, I feel for anderson with his injuries and fitness issues and a few other players, but they rarely pull their weight (no fitness puns intended )

edit - saying that SAF may be tempted to start a 2nd string team vs Sunderland, with an eye on the FA Cup replay away to Chelsea two days later

Nope my maths is wrong, United would probably have to win that 4th game as you mentioned (depending on City's results in the interim)

15 Points Clear!!

Amazing really, must be hard to motivate some players when the job is done so early and only really the FA cup games to look forward to. 15 points and City looking likely to drop at least 2 more losses.

I can't see why any City fan would want to keep mancini.
