Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [16 - 21st August 2013]

Rooney will stay for another season unless a £45m offers comes in. Reckon Wenger may bid but United won't sell him to Arsenal or any other PL rival.

You just know if he leaves, he's going to get back on form and score against us every time we play against Rooney.

Will that was a rubbish performance. Gillingham is the worst ground I've been to. Temporary away stand made out of scaffolding, no roof, I lent my friend my hoody and then it started to rain...

Disjointed amd arrogant performance from us... but I'll take the 95th minute equaliser any day!

Talk on twitter that AOC has done his cruciate ligaments  :(

I missed that post before, completely not surprising, thread bare squad, sicknote players, something wrong with our medical staff/overtraining/something. If we have more injuries than any other team basically every season there is something fundamentally wrong and we've known that for years.

Likewise Wenger keeps banging on this "we're ready to spend we just can't find players who are better" rubbish. I believe what he says, I believe HE believes he has top notch players who can't be improved on, that has been his problem for 8 years. He's completely lost touch with his ability to judge a good player from a bad one. He all but forced Pires out of the club at the expense of Hleb, that was the start of it, Denilson who was utter turd had to beg to be allowed to leave after a season in which Wenger was happy starting him ahead of MUCH better players. Ramsey, Diaby, Rosicky, Walcott are not players that can win us titles, Walcott was pathetically weak today once again, zero fight, almost no tracking back, almost no defensive work and almost no offensive work.

Wenger also seems to be saying we got hurt on the field because Swansea were being rough and the ref unfair. AOC got hurt in a tackle he didn't need to make in which both players did an identical slide into the tackle. One player gets a bigger whack and walks away, the other ends up doing his ligaments... why is it always an Arsenal player that limps away from a tackle injured? Sagna hurt himself with a completely stupid attempt to win a header, Gibbs injury was obviously completely accidental. Rosicky can't play a full blooded(or half blooded) game without leaving a pitch with an injury.

THis happens no matter the team, season and usually the player.... when will people correctly place the blame with Wenger's training methods and style. Rosicky, Ramsey, AOC, Walcott are all pretty small players, Mert is lanky rather than strong, Gibbs is a skinny runt, Wilshire is tiny, Diaby is pretty skinny/lanky/gangly and awkward looking and constantly screws up his legs.

Hey Wenger, why not buy a huge hulk of a player or two, guys who won't get injured with every little knock? Luiz got stamped on, walked away, Ivanovic throws himself about, gets knocked about, nothing, Williams smashes into people, nothing, Huth smashes into people all day long, nothing. Gibbs goes into a tackle, misses half a season, stop buying weakling midgets you completely stupid idiot.

Good week for Danny Welbeck as well, goal for England in midweek and then a brace in the first PL game, well done son!

Meh, first Utd goal was against the run of play and the second effectively sealed the game.

Fair play Utd were clinical, but we couldn't finish a crossword today :o

Being a united fan I hope they offload Rooney. He is over-rated out of shape diva who believes he is better than everyone at the club and don't earn the wages he gets. Yes he is great when on form but sadly this is not often enough. Today united showed they can do fine without him up front.

United won by a very nice scoreline the but midfield was terrible and I hope Moyes manages to get some good midfielders in. If the press is anything to go by he is trying to.

There was lots of space in front of our back 4 today in the first half, if Swansea had of started with Bony up front and Michu off him I think Swansea would have caused us more problems.

Luckily Carrick remembered where he should be and sat there and we looked much more comfortable.

Very good day for Liverpool with Arsenal losing and Everton drawing, Spurs defeat would top it off nicely. Can't say City's, Chelsea's or your results mean a lot to me because they won't have much, if any, bearing on our season or league position.
Sorry, but today doesnt really mean squat over the season ( and I would say the same had you lost)

Today will have little baring on where you end up either ( whether you win the league or finish outside the top half)

Im starting that while remembering Utd losing 1-0 to Everton on the opening day a year ago

Coming back to today, a badly taken pen saved you two points just as much as a wide scoreline potentially doing dis-service to the obvious requirements Utd's midfield desperately need.

Edit - after the dis-interest Rooney showed Utd could do worse than flogging him to Arsenal for £30m ( they have bigger problems elsewhere) which would hopefully give more deserving players more chances.

Yeah. Until it went 3-0 I felt the scoreline didn't represent the way we were playing. Unfortunately we were wasteful with the final ball and couldn't capitalise on the possession.

Perhaps against another team and with Bony starting we could be been 2-0 before half time.

Oh well, I wouldn't have looked at the fixtures and expect to beat Utd, but I'm more disappointed because we played well and lost. Also a bit annoying as we've always held our own at home.

.

You certainly should have scored one before half-time, possibly two (without Bony)

Utd were very lucky today and if that had been a mid season game the scoreline would have benefitted the home team significantly imo

He could sell to Arsenal because there nowhere near a rival! :p

People moaning about Rooney not celebrating?

If he had celebrated people would be complaining that he was asking to leave yet then celebrating with his team mates (you know, like they did at the end of the season).

All I care is he came on and set up two goals.

why is rvp so good :(, go away

I love Kolo Toure, he is class

I've always loved Kolo, I loved his maurading runs every now and then where he just does the "defending, lol, I want a goal" mode. I didn't catch all of the game today nor any preseason stuff for Pool, has he been doing any of his kung fu on the pitch yet?

Anyway, Wenger and why he's a total pratt

Wenger
on who picked up injuries during the game…
Oxlade-Chamberlain, Gibbs, Sagna. Gibbs has a deep cut. Sagna and Rosicky have problems. Wilshere - I don't know how he will respond after the full 90 minutes. Ramsey has a problem after a kick at his ankle. On that front, we have done quite well.

On the "injuries" front we've done quite well... AOC, Gibbs, Sagna and Rosicky all picking up problems, Sagna smashing his neck, AOC rumoured to have done his cruciate, Gibbs with a deep cut and Rosicky will be out for 4 years... in the first game, with a very weak squad... 4 injuries in a game is doing quite well.........

The man is completely deluded.
