Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [16th - 18th September 2016]

I don't understand, Herrera - Schneiderlin - Pogba is a strong midfield that can mix it with the best in the league, assuming they're given time to find some form.

Rooney and Fellaini are both disjointed players in these central midfield roles. Even Carrick could be an improvement with two good runners alongside him.

I'm really not sure what our tactics are supposed to be either.

Exactly what I'm thinking, might even be good seeing Depay replace Rashford second half.

Mkhitaryan isn't on the bench but his best position is CAM really, so would need to be utilised in a 4-2-3-1 but then we might be exposed with Pogba as CM.

Quote removed.

Show me one negative comment about Pogba in this thread apart from mine. Yet his impact this season has been nil. I can't help that.

Instead of highlighting our shortfalls the 'fans' are instead attacking the commentators, my point being merely that the commentators are just talking about what they see. And they haven't been given anything positive to talk about from the United players so far.

Maybe we should stick to match analysis rather than critique every comment that heddle makes?

Has JM ever used a 4-3-3 consistently though - I would love to see those three used together, I just cant see it happening

Didn't he make his international injury worse during the derby?

What's wrong with attacking the commentators?

Moot point :)

Plenty of people have highlighted the "shortfalls" in midfield.

Nothing wrong with attacking the commentary if that is the primary thing to attack. Thing is we are losing for the third game in a row and it's almost like people are deflecting the blame to the commentary rather than the performances.

If he doesn't want to use a 433, then he needs to be playing Pogba in the no. 10 position, or he needs to be giving him a huge amount of freedom to go forward.

Nobody is doing that, I'm pretty sure everyone is in agreement that we're rubbish.

.

Henry, you and I all think he should be no10 - although when that was suggested earlier in the season a lot of people here said it wasn't ever going to happen either (whether or not JM has the balls to demote Rooney)

The commentators have been dire, Hoddle hasn't got a clue what he's talking about and saying that doesn't mean you're defending any players on the pitch in doing so. Players playing badly or well and commentators being idiots are two entirely separate issues and Hoddle has been a moron forever and constantly criticised for his commentary. It was only yesterday I think in the everton game he pulled out the "not being funny but if that was a foreign player he'd still be rolling around", like Martial who tried to play on with what appears to be a concussion... what a ***** eh Hoddle.

Utd have been poor, Pogba hasn't been at his best. The team play FAR too slowly in attack and that is hugely down to Rooney and Fellaini being incredibly slow on the ball and often playing back/sideways.

Look at City, Toure was rated brilliantly but removing him has utterly changed the squad. He was so slow, unreliable and all over the place just like Rooney is, but in a critical position which sets the tone for the team. Pogba needs to be the driving force setting the tempo but isn't allowed to. The entire team is playing to Rooney's tempo and that is the tempo of a player who is seemingly thinking about retirement rather than someone at the peak of his game or playing well.

Mourinho isn't going to have much choice soon, it will be clear to him that certain players are holding the team back. If he doesn't see that then we're in trouble, but I'm sure he will.

Pogba isn't a number 10.

He ain't a number 6 either. He's something in between. But we don't have a good number 6 or number 10 and that's why I was confused when we bought Pogba for 90 million.

I mean if we were to rate our clutch of centre mids in terms of value for money and usefulness to the team I think we should be worried

Schneiderlin -28 million, not even sure why we bought him. Consistently below average.
Fellaini - 28 million, every second touch a tackle as someone mentioned on here.
Herrera - 28 million, lightweight, not a great tackler, doesn't seem to create assists or goals.
Mata 37 million, weak on and off the ball. Flyweight sometimes scores, does little else.
Military yen - 28 million about to enter last year of contract. Done nothing of note so far but looked poor.

Pogba - 90 million, headless chicken mode activated. Not great at either ends of the field. Luxury buy back gone wrong.

So there we go ball down the left hand side, his not the 'danger area' not one Utd player challenging for the ball in their 6 yard box to win the header, watch Watford attack and tell me it is th same?

considering the performance levels, I'm bemused why Carrick is not getting a look in.

It's odd, he was supposedly leaving, then signed a new contract. With Pogba and Herrera alongside him, he can relax a bit and just focus on playing the ball forward. He shouldn't be overwhelmed in that sort of setup too much. I'm not saying he's brilliant by any means, but he should be given a chance.

I think the predictions of Fellaini going crap even after a couple of good games at the start of the season where accurate, yet Jose keeps with him.
