Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [16th - 21st April 2016]

Spurs game at Newcastle could be a tough game as Newcastle will be fighting to stay up.

I'd question the motivation of a lot of those Newcastle players. I'd be worried playing Norwich or Sunderland on the final day of the season. Not so much with Newcastle.

Having said that, Newcastle won the tie at WHL.

Newcastle will probably be down by then and like you say, I just can't see them putting up much of a fight like you'd expect from a team battling for their lives.

The Chelsea game is the key game because I can see Spurs winning the rest of theirs. All Leicester's fixtures suddenly look a lot harder than 2 weeks ago. I don't think people appreciate how big the loss of Vardy is and where as the pressure is off Spurs, it's piling on Leicester by the game. It's not just Vardy's individual input but how important he is to the style of the side. As I've been shot down for saying a few times already, Leicester don't play great football and dominate matches - their game is based around keeping it tight at the back and pinching games on the break. Put Ulloa in that side instead of Vardy and it suddenly looks a much harder style to implement.

With Vardy in the side, although still difficult, you could see a way in which Leicester beat Utd - tight at the back and hit them on the break. Without Vardy it's so much harder to see how Leicester can beat Utd and even to a lesser extent Swansea. I've no doubt Swansea (and Utd) will have more of the game vs Leicester and you're not going to be worried about Ulloa on the break.

Like I said last night, if Leicester find a way to win it then fair play to them but these next 2 games will be interesting. If I was Ranieri I'd stick Mahrez up front and bring Gray in rather than Ulloa.

Great game last night.. I thought our work ethic was sublime and Lamela has come on much this season.

I can see Leicester only picking up 6 points from their remaining 12 but Spurs will fall against Chelsea away.. So the title will still fall to the Foxes.
Of course, I'd love to see Spurs win the title but if we don't then fair play to Leicester and I'd have been more than pleased with 2nd place at the start of the season

I think Leicester will do it but it will be close. Spurs are going to be fighting at the top of the league for a good few seasons to come I reckon. They look really good.

hopefully half their team and manager will be at United next season :D

That's the big question for Spurs can they hold onto the top top players and the manager? Will they be prepared to gamble big on wages as that is what it will take Harry Kane et all will know what he could command elsewhere and will expect Tottenham to match it which I'm not sure they can....

Pochetino is a tricky one he is clearly a top quality manager but he has already shown he is ambitious and will jump ship if a better offer comes along he has no reason to be loyal to Spurs so unless the clubs ambitions match his and are backed up with cash then I could see him doing a runner for a top club.

Great title race though and it is certainly going to the wire, my money was on Leicester until this weekend but their blip combined with Vardy loosing his head has made the run in suddenly look a lot harder I think a lot will depend on how they respond this weekend a decent win will see the ball back in their court another blip and I think Tottenham will eat them up.

I'm starting to fancy Spurs more and more, they seem to be the team playing with no pressure whereas Leicester are scraping results. Vardy potentially out for more than one game will be a big loss.

Spurs have a considerably better goal difference as well, not over yet.

In the past, it's been Man Utd and Real Madrid buying up Spurs' talent. Man Utd simply don't have the same lure as they used to have though. Who would want to move from a well-run top 2 team to a rudderless club with so much uncertainty hanging over them? If Man Utd fail to qualify for the Champions League, could they even afford to offer higher wages?

There's rumours that Pochettino won't sign a new contract until the club promises him that his big players won't be sold. Real Madrid going on a spending spree is the biggest danger to Spurs' continued success right now.

However, I don't see Kane ever moving from Spurs. He loves the kebab shops of Chingford too much. :p

I think Leicester are in more danger of being stripped of talent. I mean i'd be prepared to bet money that Mahrez won't be there next season at least, and I think he's their best player.

Man Utd are one of the biggest clubs in the world, top 3 type status...Spurs aren't even close. They would be able to pay him and Spurs an absolute bucket load of money if they wanted to...

Manchester United's revenue is dropping year-on-year. Manchester City could easily overtake them next year, especially if Manchester United don't finish in the top 4.

They're a club on the wane.

Sponsorships (and the new TV deal) have so far sustained the club while performing worse in the league / CL quali etc

BBC are not the only ones reporting that Utd are still quite likely to be the world's richest club within 12 months

They've rode that storm. Their turnover, even without the CL, is far ahead anybody else and if they wanted they could massively outspend anybody in the League. The problem is they won't. They'll spend what it takes to get back in the CL but not a penny more.

Yep, what Baz said. United could easily just pull a City or Madrid, but there is zero chance of that actually happening.

I would have said that had SAF stayed we wouldn't have seen that quarter of a billion splashed out either.

that draw leicester got against west ham will be crucial

spurs deserve it in terms of performances, leicester deserve it on budget comparison and to mix it up.

there's been times recently when spurs have looked simply sublime in all areas, i can't really say the same about leicester. they looked rough around the edges on sunday.
