Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [16th - 22nd August 2011]

Good, a win. Not sure we entirely deserved it. Should have had a couple of penalties and the referee was just generally rubbish.

ITT: People mad that Chelsea won.

LOL U MAD

I'm liking Shane Long, mind you. Although he seemed to fizzle out second half.

4 points is considered and encouraging start? I swear espn hire clueless people, commentators are the worst I've heard, they talk absolute nonsense all game. Really poor coverage.

Doesn't really matter. Chelsea won all their opening games last season and look where it got them. .-.

Unlucky West Brom, Woy has really turned them around.

Chelsea look far from title challengers, will be interesting to see what they're like when they've got Lukaku and Mata starting though

Ipswich just lost 7 - 1 to peterborough!

they lost 5 - 2 in midweek too

I thought ipswich were one of the favourites for promotion!

Norwich got done 7-1 first day of the season.

Come the end of the season they were promoted...

Barkley had a good game, as did Baines anf Jag (although Jag was at fault for the goal)

everyone else was poor at best, and moyes taking beckford off for fellaini was strange! played 4-6-0 ! lol

In need of a proven striker NOW

Must admit I did lol everton whilst cursing them because they chucked my accy for £265 :(

Should have stuck by my guns though. Had £200 in my hand to do a Villa, Newcastle and Pool treble but my arse dropped out and I bottled it. Would have had about £1250 give or take.

Didn't think Enrique deserved MOTM today (I was watching with other people including a Liverpool fan and a neutral and none of them did either), I thought Vermaelen played better - heck even Carragher, club captain stood literally alongside the bloke, basically said as much in the interview when he said if Liverpool hadn't won it would have gone to Verm.

latics are so unlucky, post, crossbar and saved penalty all in a couple of minutes

aye

"Unlucky?"

Wigan are the luckiest club in the League, they've managed to survive all these seasons despite being utter tripe.

hurt of the butt

That's not really true though is it. They've had some fantastic players in their time in the Premiership, a couple of very good managers and they try to play good football but they're a selling club and will always struggle. Think they've done very well to stay in the Premiership. Just a shame they're not very well supported.

yup, I said before the season started Wigan needed to get some players in or it will be another long hard season.

Verm/Enrique/Kelly could have all had MOTM for me, Im just glad we won but i did think Verm did extremely well for Arsenal.

I honestly think Enrique got it because of this truly ridiculous public perception that Theo is brilliant and keeping him quiet is difficult.

Arsenal were woeful, Liverpool didn't do a whole hell of a lot till Frimpong was gone and Suarez/Meireles were on.

THe only truly notable thing Enrique did was, clearly, wearing a football shirt that is 2 sizes too small to make himself look a bit "hulked out". :p

Verm all the way really, don't think a single other player on the pitch played up to the top of his game, Verm was a rock in a team playing like crap.

Wenger's said the decisions today were scandalous :/

The first goal could have easily been given offside but it was marginal at best; you can't criticise the officials too much for that. I'm not sure what else he could possibly have to complain about; Frimpong should have been sent off after 7 minutes (he should have been booked for the foul on Agger in the first minute) and when he was finally sent off, he was lucky it wasn't a straight red.

I don't think it was "marginal" I think it was clearly offside. I do think Frimpong should have gone for that tackle on Agger though.

How can something be clear when half his body was onside and half was offside?

And why would have Frimpong been sent off for the tackle on Agger? I'm talking about the tackle in the first minute when Agger was breaking forward and he brought him down ~40 yards from goal. It was a booking or at least 99 times out of 100 it would have been.
