Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [16th - 22nd August 2011]

I didn't come on here and just have a pop at him. I questioned people saying his performance was very good and he looked relatively solid. If a keeper dropping a cross inside his 6 yard box and fumbling a shot straight at him is very solid then I can't wait for him to have a bad game.

I think it's obvious to everybody other than a select few Utd fans that anybody claiming he had a good game are massively overcompensating.

I would say you're making a lot out of a little but im a Utd fan so it could well be bias. Considering the start the kid has had he needed a clean sheet just for confidence and he handled the majority of shots well. His distribution as said is scary at times and allows us to counter attack very quickly. I would describe this performance as solid relative to the start he has had anyway :p

Just going off R5L commentary

Smalling , Jones, Rooney & Young (in parts) were great from the start, and Anderson, Cleverley and Welbeck and Nani and Evans and Evra were fabulous once Spurs started to wane a little around the hour mark. VDG was shakey a few times and let off by Lennon's poor shot / pass early in the 2nd otherwise he had virtually nothing to do (and to be fair it sounds like -as usual - Friedal did some really decent saves as well)

No disrespect at all to Spurs at all, but they arent the level Utd need to be aiming at, and if Spurs had been fully fit I could see that game being much much closer if not a 0-0, which would have course be much worse for Utd than Spurs.

Ok with Welbeck, Cleverley and Anderson all being inexperienced to one degree or another I guess it was always going to be difficult (and apart from the opening few minutes the 1st half esp was pretty dire for the home side) but are Utd getting too predictable, as above Rooney was great throughout but we cant rely on him producing everything all the time - Nani wasnt invisible but he didnt seem to do anything that great before the 1st goal (60 minutes in), Anderson kept on losing the ball seemingly too easily and Cleverley was overpowered too easily when Spurs were at full strength

This is all from 5 Live, so it could well be coloured by that.

Fabulous to see Chicharito come on, ok he didnt score - but he looked very lively.

Spurs did very well for the most part for the first hour (apart from some REALLY long range shots ~40yrds +>?) but then fell apart a little and saved froma real hammering by their gk.

Very true - he is practically owed an assist for one goal tonight (not quite I know, but he made the goal possible)

Having not watched the game, the above is the most pointless post ever, after this one.

losing walker didn't help as he could keep up with the pace. this is why we needed woodgate, dawson and kaboul are not a confidence inspiring pair at all! first half we were good and matched united, pity no one reminded redknapp that there was another half to come. we sooo need a striker who can play with vdv.

so Im not allowed an opinion because I listened to the game instead of paying mega bucks to get it at home, or get drunk in the pub!!!

Thats as bad as calling someone a troll

edit - it was actually quite balanced, wasnt black and white at all

Can we just leave it that:

All supporters across all clubs post 'baiting' bits and posts that could be considered to be a 'Wind Up Merchants' and leave it there and move on with our lives and get back to Football discussion?

Should we all stick the boot in then

Where's that drop De Gea thread gone...

Who has stuck the boot in and who has called for him to be dropped?

Again, and you questioned somebody saying Utd fans are being defensive?

If it's ok for a Utd fan to say he thought De Gea had a very good game, it's ok for people to disagree without you having a paddy.

Yeah well stop having a go at him already will you, trolls always trollin  :p ;)

I thought De Gea did play better than he did last week but to be fair to him, Spuds were extremely one dimensional. They put their tactics up for Fergie to see two days before hand 'Were going to rough up De Gea' Well done Bale and Assou-Ekoto.

In summary, good distribution, looked more confident, fluffed a few easy ones that a more experienced goalie would have had, kept a clean sheet.
