Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [16th - 22nd August 2011]

3 mistakes? I counted 2 at best, fumbling the cross and spilling a shot which in truth was never going to result in a goal as it didn't go far enough away from him.

The problem we have here is last season when VDS made similar errors that didn't result in a goal no one battered an eye lid, no one came out and said VDS had a bad game but the new boy does it and it's all people want to talk about

To suggest that because he fumbled a cross and spilled a shot neither of which resulted in goals equals a bad performance is laughable really especially after all the good things he did

I counted three.

Spilled shot out for corner.
Fumbled a cross.
Spilled shot but gathered safely.

That really proves my point tbh, keepers make unconventional saves all the time and dont get it labelled at them as a mistake. He kept it from going in the net that's the main thing :)

Oh I agree, fumble it anywhere but in the net, but don't you think he could have gathered it rather than giving away a potentially costly corner. :)

I'm probably expecting too much, especially after van der Sar.

:/

He was poor, he flapped at one cross getting nowhere near it, and fumbled another and got away with it.

I can smell a troll up to 45 miles away. especially if its just across the m62! You can't criticise de gea, he played very well and only kicked the ball off the pitch a few times and fumbled the odd head the ball!

Friedel was terrible he couldn't even keep his sheet clean. rooneys free kick was too slow and he only saved from nani due to a misplaced post!

I jest of course but theres not many non utd fans who are claiming that de gea looked anything other than a bit dodge out there. lets face it he has made significant mistakes in all 3 games he's played in now.

But tom et al have hung their hats on him for whatever reason without even seeing gmhim play in England and seem unwilling to climb down from this position regardless of the evidence.

He could have but keepers turn shots round for corners when they could just collect them all the time

Until a time he starts doing these then people should lay off the kid

:D

And before anyone starts yes Reina is one of the best if not the best keeper in the league

What exactly would you prefer? Us all to be of the opinion that after spending nigh on 20m on a 20 year old he should be dropped and another keeper bought instead after only 3 games?

Or are you hoping we'll all turn round and say Nickg was right all along and should have bought Stekelenburg even though he too has never played in England and has a much bigger background for calamitous mistakes than De Gea has come with.

Seriously what is it you hope to get from posting on these forums?

He does have his moments though.

What do you get from defending the indefensible? Is he your brother? Friend or legal other?

I just don't get this robust 'de gea was fine' business. yes he is young and yes he cost near 20 mill you are right on these accounts for sure.

But you're making out he had a good game, when he clearly did not. so i don't know if you are to an extent dullusional or lying because it is obvious to many people that he had another weak performance.

I think it was a poor performance despite some positive distribution.

Hero.

what am I defending? Am I making excuses for him? I'm saying he had a better all round game than his last 2 that is an undeniable fact seeing as he failed to concede a goal and last night was the first time we saw his distribution on a regular basis. Was he faultless? No. Did he make the same mistakes that every keeper in the world makes week in week out? Yes. Was it a poor performance? No. Are you still posting on these forums? Unfortunately Yes.

No thread for us lowly second round LC participants :( so posting here.

Aquilani, Cole, Poulsen and N'gog haven't travelled with the squad so looks likely they'l be off.

Lucas, Kelly, Agger have travelled but never had any playing kit with them supposedly.

-edit-
KrisPetersoon Kristoffer Peterson

Frimpong has been called up to the England under 21's. How on earth can someone with the surname Frimpong play for England? :o :p
