Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [16th - 22nd August 2011]

De Gea does seem a little shaky at the moment but he will come good without a doubt. You can tell he has the ability he's just a bit nervous, to be honest the rest of the team can make up for it if performances thus far this season are a pre-cursor of what is to come.

Wilshere very likely to miss the United game. I think at this rate, assuming this week involves the trend of more injuries and people leaving, our line-up will be:

Anderson is filling the gap it would seem?

Wes couldn't celebrate in such style as that!

lol, that is so bad, when Henry did it, he started the swing, pulled the back leg out then passed in a different direction. Anderson passes THEN tries to sell it by swinging the other leg, after the ball has gone, and he passed in the direction he was going, to the obvious player to pass too.

He passes it, lennon is following the ball and the rest is just retarded, but very very entertaining.

Anderson has always been able to run past people with a bit of pace, its his lack of the right decision later on that costs him time and time again, as with many other players. One goal doesn't change much, one goal that should have been easily stopped. As always a midfielder who doesn't stop after Anderson passes it off and he intercepts the return, but they all just stopped and watched. The pass from Welbeck was pretty awesome, that was a pass that fooled everyone and completely wrong footed the keeper leaving a pretty damn simple finish.

He'll need to do a LOT more to be considered even a good player let alone potentially great.

He does do the crazy eyes, which the league has seriously lacked since Hasselbaink, though its not angry "I'm going to kill you" crazy eyes but "I just had sex with a bike" crazy eyes.

Well cleverly is getting more game time as is anderson both offer creativity and energy. i just dont think its prudent to blow 30+ million on Wesley.

bank it and put it into a new keeper fund. and to think people laughed when i threw friedel out as an alternative. the guardian even leverages the headline: friedel outshines De Gea, which despite conceding 3 goals must be some feat?

De Gea had a good game last night, he only lost the ball under a heavy challenge in the second half.

Friedel did nothing of note that was any better, or worse than De Gea did last night, its a nonsense to suggest otherwise.

So what you're saying is someone made a mistake and the other side conceded a goal. :o You know, like every goal ever scored?

Distribution is only small part of being a keeper.

Not at the best clubs it's not, Valdes for instance starts many of Barca's attacking moves

Regardless he excelled with his distribution last night so he wasn't as you put it 'poor' last night was he

So distribution is the main part of a big club's goalkeeper's job?

I thought it was stopping the ball going in the goal.

Yes, he was.

Didn't say it was, just said it's a big part of a keepers job at the bigger clubs

I thought it was stopping the ball going in the goal.

Which he did last night :)

Yes, he was.

LOL he didn't concede a goal and his distribution he excellant that doesn't equal a poor performance. I assume as he conceded 3 goals Friedel must have been awful then?

De Gea was solid in the first half, second half was a different story though with the three mistakes, he needs to be more commanding on crossses and his fumbles must be down to concentration. Distribution is excellent though.

3 mistakes? I counted 2 at best, fumbling the cross and spilling a shot which in truth was never going to result in a goal as it didn't go far enough away from him.

The problem we have here is last season when VDS made similar errors that didn't result in a goal no one battered an eye lid, no one came out and said VDS had a bad game but the new boy does it and it's all people want to talk about

To suggest that because he fumbled a cross and spilled a shot neither of which resulted in goals equals a bad performance is laughable really especially after all the good things he did
