Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [17th - 22nd April 2015]

No surprise, Maureen did the same to Liverpool at anfield last season (assisted by Gerrard) and walked away with three points.

It's what he does.
You mean he just wins right?
Nothing wrong with that, especially when you're underdogs like at Anfield last season and it could be said today considering how both teams have been playing recently.

Both in terms of wages and transfer fees Utd have massively outspent even Chelsea in the last few seasons.
Stop it with your reasonable approach you.

The same cautious tactics didn't earn you a win vs PSG.

There's no denying that in the biggest games Mourinho's first though is not to lose then to look for the win. His record in those big games will justify his approach but from time to time you've paid for his negativity.

Away at City and Utd you were in the position to put both games to bed but JM was happy to sit on the 1-0 win and both times you threw the lead away in the last moments of the game. PSG was probably the best example, even with them being down to 10 men you didn't push to kill the game off and it came back to bite you on the arse.

I'll give you the freaky PSG 2nd leg but as we're currently 10 points clear with 6 games to play in the PL and pretty much nailed on to win it you simply can't argue with his tactics, yet.
And although opposing fans may cry about the style of football we play (completely ignoring how good we were until Feb or so) all that matters is winning the competition you're in.

Well its pretty obvious you don't do it every game. I mean you came to anfield this season and pasted us, seems to be the games he becomes scared of losing or suits to not lose, like CL games which inevitably leads to a loss over two legs.

Also no chance you were underdogs today :p

You've not had any real competition this season tbf. As I said though, his results in the big games, domestically in particular, will justify his tactics but Europe's going to be the issue.

Relying on a tight defence to see you all the way through to a CL is a big ask. Atletico came close last season, and they were exceptional, but it still wasn't enough. As they saw, it only takes 1 set-play to ruin those tactics.

edit: and Mirallas' challenge looks worse every time I see it.

Considering we were four key (I call them key because they've been impressive in our recent run of form) short, I think we played exceptionally well today and especially so in the first half. Luke Shaw impressed me today which is good considering the amount of question marks there have been over him in the press.

Whilst their goal probably should have never been as it was a foul on Falcao, it still didn't justify the space Hazard was given to make the run he did.

For all of our possession, we never really looked a serious threat on goal but that doesn't surprise me with Falcao being on the pitch, Rooney playing deep and Chelsea's decent defence.

Di Maria and Januzaj looked awful when they came on, I thought our performance became visibly worse when they were introduced.

Worse, he said it wasn't worth a red card and that he stood on his foot and was in control :/

edit: We see loads of bad challenges but I can't remember a challenge that's so clearly intentional in ages. You can see him raise his leg and then almost pause until the right moment to stamp down on Boyd. If he makes a fuller contact Boyd's leg would have snapped there.

Jesus, who was the clown who said the only time he was dirty was to 'get back at suarez'

If the FA aren't going to stop him doing it, here's hoping from a good old double break or acl

A fully fit Aguero's the best player in the League imo and if I think about it probably the only truly world class attacking player we have in the league. Unfortunately he's rarely fully fit.

And it's very harsh to say Sanchez isn't nearly as consistent as Hazard. He's scored 1 goal more and got the same amount of assists as Hazard and done it in less games. That said he has played a few games as a central striker but mainly he's played in a wider position similar to Hazard.

I was reading Jamie Carragher's article on the POTY awards and he made the point that this has been a pretty poor year in terms of attacking talent. Hazard's likely to win the award but his performances aren't nearly as good as Suarez from last year, Ronaldo at his peak for Utd or Henry at his best for Arsenal.

100% agree, Aguero has proven himself to be world class where as Hazard has not quite reached that level yet.

Wtf are these comments about hazard? Lol. One of the best mids in the league, so quick he usually just gets fouled. Goal scorer, play maker and all round great player. It's hard to say he's cack!
