Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [17th - 22nd December 2011]

Great result. Feel sorry for Bolton and Coyle, they don't have a big squad and the loss of key players in the summer have hit them hard. Kean on the other hand appears to be incompetent, Blackburn shouldn't have sacked Big Sam.

It's looking clear that Coyle isn't the genius he was being made out to be last season but like you say, you've got to feel sorry for him with the way things have changed for him at Bolton.

Lose Holden and Lee (that's his name, right? :o) to injury, Elmander on a free and Sturridge back to Chelsea, without any money to replace them, there's not much anybody can do.

Yet despite all those statistics Bolton now find themselevs ahead of Blackburn in the table having just beaten them.

So? Next week they could be behind, doesn't change how many games Coyle has lost or the form over the past season, which is worse than Bolton's. Hence giving some longer term statistics as well as just this season.

Even if they do end up ahead of Blackburn, is coming 2nd bottom and being relegated really THAT much better than coming last and getting relegated?

Well, they were terrible WITH Sturridge's goals last year, they were terrible with most of those players last year. Sure its not easy to improve but their form dipped way before most/any of those players had a problem.

Only Holden got injured during last season and Bolton had already gone from first half of the year drawing a lot of games to second half of the season losing rather than drawing.

But as we've seen plenty of times, some managers don't suit certain clubs. Sometimes they work with a new no.2 and they just don't work well together. Different combinations of coaches and players. Sometimes player transfer work out great, sometimes they fail miserably. A great manager won't always be able to get results at any club with completely different people, players and coaches, around him. Likewise a not great coach could do very well with the right team/coaches around him.

Whatever your opinion of Grant is, and most people think he's awful, he somehow got Chelsea to a final.

Manager is one part of pretty big machine of parts, his style isn't working at Bolton, it doesn't mean it wouldn't work great somewhere else, infact, we know it worked pretty well somewhere else.

Redknapp all but got West ham and pompie relegated(through woeful transfers and ridiculous spending) but with a owner with a tighter leash around his neck not letting him spend a club into oblivion(or not yet :p ) its working much much better.

I think Coyle and Bolton is working horrifically badly, the sum of all the parts there is NOT working, that doesn't mean most of the parts somewhere else can't do very well.

Worried about Toon tonight. No Cabaye :(

Now missing both Taylor's and Cabaye tonight!

Will be hard and had a dream we lost 2-1 so really worried :(

I wish your team would stop losing players effects my FF team grr :p

Well back to my team now :p We should beat Wigan quite comfertabley but we have draw last 2 with them if i re-call correctly so should be intresting.

Now with whats happened to Suarez we might start Carroll who knows.

MUFC: Lindegaard; Smalling, Jones, Evans, Evra; Valencia, Giggs, Carrick, Nani; Rooney, Welbeck

Subs: De Gea, Berbatov, Park, Hernandez, Young, Rafael, Fryers.

Mostly unchanged, Rio struggled with fitness I think but unsure.

Does anybody know when/if Sky decide what game is re-played on SS1 later? Only got virgin tv at the gf's (so can't use red button) and I won't bother with a other means if arsenal are on tv

I don't think you'll know until the show starts. They're not showing any single game in full like they do on a Saturday, it's just highlights of all games (via the red button).

Motd's on at 10.45pm though.

The listings on my tv say 'Football First: Match Choice' at 10:15, 11:45 and 1:15 all lasting 90 minutes, so I thought they were the full games, I could watch any tbf as I have no work tomorrow

"Sarah-Jane Mee presents highlights from all of Wednesday's fixtures....... .....Press the red button to acces match choice menu"

They usually show ~50 minutes worth of highlights of each game via the red button then do a round-up of all the games with some brief analysis at the end.

They are.

While I'm not sure it's the greatest idea, one thing that is great to see (throughout the whole issue) is the solidarity the club and players are showing.

They wouldn't be doing all this ridiculous stuff if they thought Suarez was actually in the wrong what so ever, who was the last player to be banned for racism and how long?

Lets score 9 and go in the top 4.

Goosebumps watching that, what a club.
Kenny wearing one too <3
