Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [18th - 21st January 2014]

I think there are situations in which you can get the ball first, and then follow through with high studs. If you're trying to clear it, connect with the ball, and then follow through into a player it might happen. However, based on that picture there's no way that's what Brown was doing.

I've got sympathy for Terry in the above one. The ball's bouncing, and that's the only way he can realistically win it. The other player (is it Milner?) is just too quick for him. It's a yellow, and maybe a red for me.

Coming in from behind is totally different, though. You're not going to win the ball by going through a player.

you lost the argument with 'sympathy for Terry':p

You must hate Yanga-Mbiwa then

Every defensive player (and a lot of attacking ones) will make poor challenges during their career. It's part of football, and it's rarely malicious. Why is that cause to hate anyone?

^^ Damn, should have thought that through more :D

What, so because a Newcastle player makes a poor challenge I can't criticise another player for doing the same?

/logic

It's hilarious how often when people are called on their "but he got the ball" argument it immediately falls back to comparing it to the first bad tackle they can think of that someone on your team has made.... which apparently excuses a bad tackle as well.

It's a shocking tackle, at best it's a yellow, might be worth a red, certainly a freekick and a yellow and actually having the ref get some medical staff over to him a hell of a lot quicker than they did. I honestly don't know how the ref couldn't see both what a bad tackle it was and in what a bad way the player was, it was clear as day instantly.

Got Arsenal and Liverpool to draw in my idiotic accumulator. Hoping for one of those days where nothing goes in!

Good luck with that:p, Arsenal will score a few today i imagine...cant see Fulham getting anything out of this game.

Disagree, it's a studs up challenge to the knee that easily could have resulted in a break if his foot was planted. It's dangerous and deserved a red. It's even worse when you consider it was just outside our box, they were 1-0 up and all that would have come from Milner kicking the ball would have been essentially a pass to Cech.

Ooh a deluded Mackem in here now :)

Hope he hangs round until the end of the season :D

Lurking since 2003..... ;)

I've just watched the tackle again, still don't think it was dirty, or late, but it was hard and he caught the player on the follow through which he could have been booked or gone for. And I still think it looks a LOT worse on the screen grab that's been posted on here. And it's certainly nothing like Terry's tackle that's just been posted which was knee height
