Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [19 - 21st October 2012]

Seemed harsh, you could see he only had eyes for the ball.

Similar to when someone tries to stop a clearance and their foot is raised. It's not like he's gone over the top of the ball and stamped.

Only Tiote knows if he's gone to do him, but that seemed harsh to me.

I'm pretty sure if Tiote had gone in to do him, he would have, it was barely contact, and it WASN'T a tackle, there wasn't any intention its clear as day there is absolutely nothing in that situation at all. he put his foot up towards the ball with no extra force, no anything, Fletcher got there first(entirely because Tiote was being pulled back) and he bumps into an outstretched foot, nothing more or less. There wasn't any force from Tiote pushing into Fletcher. When Tiote want's to get someone, you tend to see them not get up, that wasn't a "Tiote special".

More terrible reffing, gave Johnson the advantage then let him cross then gave him a freekick. A bad cross doesn't become a freekick, its if he's prevented from making the cross, or shot then there is no advantage. When you play on, let someone take a cross and its crap, you can't give the freekick after.

Ref really has been attrocious for Newcastle today, Le Tissier is a terrible commentator as well, generic boring praise for basic passes, calling all the big decisions wrong. He's good in the studio and was an epic footballer, crap today though.

Referee is bad, dreading the trouble up here later :p

How Larsson can kick someone in the chest then a red for Tiote for nothing is beyond me, shocking. Wrecks a good game :(

Just placed £10 on Sunderland to have a player sent off, I'm thinking the ref will even it up at some point.

i always wondered.

Do the refs get to see any replays at HT? The amount of times ive seen at stoke for example a really bad peno given before HT and then for the start of the next half the team who got given a really harsh decision against will get some very special treatment from the ref almost like they know they have made a mistake so try to even up

They shouldn't do no, but you can bet a few people will mention he got it wrong.

Ref's do seem to try and make it up to teams with soft soft decisions after the break, but then they often seem to do that within the same half as well. IE they'll give a penalty that seems soft, then seem to look for a chance to even up the score later on. I wouldn't be surprised if they unofficially see some replays, but then again they can just whip out a phone, look up live commentary for a game and see someone say along the lines of "the replay was clear, that was no penalty".

Cool, that red means Tiote will miss the Liverpool game now. Having said that, the rate he picks up yellow cards he would've probably been banned anyway.

I wouldn't be so sure of that, if I was Pardew there isn't a chance in hell I wouldn't appeal against that.

Contact between studs and legs happens every game frequently, its about the danger factors becoming a straight red, lunging tackles, off the ground, stamping, two footed off the ground, how and where the contact is made. Glancing blow, with no actual tackle, lunge or jump and a complete dive by Fletcher to make it look worse.... the FA should get it right but you never can quite tell.

.

It doesn't need to be a tackle for the ref to see it as a red, could have been sent off mainly for intent if that's the way the ref has seen it ie: reacting to the fact he was being held back. Like I said, you see it when a striker is trying to block a clearance and ends up catching the player in the follow through.

I'm not agreeing with it, in my eyes it was harsh.

I do agree about Le Tiss though, he's a shocking commentator and pundit. What's he talking about there saying Fletcher was lucky not to have a bad injury? Come on Matt.

I'm obviously annoyed at the red. I'm more frustrated he has wrecked what was looking like a good quality derby (for once) now it will be another 45mins of diving, arguing and defending which will be **** viewing.

Our best hope is Atkinson dead of a heart attack at half time so someone without his accy resting on Sunderland winning refs the rest of the game. I can't fathom out atkinsons decisions apart from the fact he actually wants Sunderland to win.

Still HAWAY THE LADS! Hang on!

You've never seen Atkinson ref a game before have you? :p

He's sitting next to a Sunderland man, both of whom offered a shocking take of events. its calculated and intention according to Butch, because the ball is on the ground(it wasn't) and he tackled him 3 ft off the ground, therefore intentional.

Well the ball wasn't on the ground, it was bouncing, second, when you kick a ball, your leg starts high, hits the ball, and follows through, thats natural, second, he catches him with a minor glancing blow below his knee.... exactly how tall is fletcher these days, because 3 ft high tackle and catching him below the knee makes Fletcher the tallest man in history by my calculations.

Quinn is an utter turd, and Butch has basically never been correct about anything he's ever said on camera..... so it definitely wasn't a red then.

Why we don't have professional pundits and commentators rather than any old pratt I really don't know. I'd take 20 more Neville's and fire everyone else than just employ every old footballer desparate for more money. Quinn shouldn't ever be put on camera, neither should Wilkins, Phil Thompson, Smith, most of the guys involved.

Quinn is right up there with the absolute sewer of commentary. They're supposed to be impartial, his commentary for Man City games is borderline vomit inducing.
