Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [19 - 21st October 2012]

He should have sent him off for the previous foul then. Just getting fed up with a player and giving him a card for anything is pathetic refereeing but given his other decisions in the match not surprising.

Edit: Regarding yellow card magnet, I thought it was harsh but most commentators and pundits appear to think it was a red, including Shearer who didn't even question it, and they know far better than us.

It was a foul, it was a tame foul, but he was standing behind someone running, he didn't have to be standing behind someone running, and he made no adjustment for the fact that when he kicks the ball the guy infront will have his leg further back. It could have been more blatant, but he DID catch his leg, however minor. He was told not very long before that one more anything and you're off. The only person who screwed up, well two, were Pienaar and Moyes, it was OBVIOUSLY coming and both walked into it.

But the main part is in bold, utter tripe, complete rubbish. Being a footballer does not in any way automatically make your opinion more valid. THis is fairly obvious from the sheer quantity of things they get wrong about literally every game they talk about, Shearer being one of the worst.

Do you think if Rooney, or Gerrard, Terry, basically any English player did it they'd have said the same? I'm not saying racism, just, they play "to the crowd" when will people learn this about pundits. A certain annoymous footballer who has a book tells you as much and has worked as a pundit. They tell a story, they have a job to do, they want a villian, and a good guy, an underdog and a champion. On top of that, how much do you think the FA likes it when the teams of guys they let win the contracts bash the referee's constantly?

Tiote's wasn't a red at all, it was stupid but barely contact, not out of control tackle not helped at all by a playing feigning injury, again if that was Rooney and say Ronaldo had gone down the reaction of pundits and fans would be screaming at the playing making a meal of it.

Pienaar's wasn't a yellow for that foul alone, it was for multiple fouls and it was deserved, simple as that.

Studs to chest = gentle play

Holding on to player = bit of banter

Player held back still trying to get to the ball = red card

Blatant handball in the box = no penalty

All this in the space of bout 5-10mins. Ref was a disgrace all game, needs investigating and suspended, mackems their usual lucky self throughout.

Football lost yesterday.

Chelsea fans really cant gloat without sounding like complete *****, so far I have seen 3 today
"completely out played you lot on sat"
"AVB really is a crap manager"
"Spurs lucky to score any against us"

I wonder what would happen if I mentioned how "lucky" they where to win the CL?
"BEST TEAM IN THE WORLDDDDDD!"

I can have more banter with an Arsenal fan than a Chelsea fan. That is a sad state of affairs.

Has it ever crossed your mind that you might be the one in the wrong?

You can certainly have a laugh and a joke about beating a team without coming across as complete *****, alas every single Chelsea fan I know just cant, as soon as you try to mention things that are not so good for them they just clamp up or tell you that you are wrong over and over and wont listen at all.

/sweeping generalisation

Sounds like manyoo and liverpool fans.

As a Sunderland supporter, I'm clearly biased, but I can't believe the inane drivel that's being spewed forth by the deluded mags on this topic. The ref was terrible for both teams, he gave just as many ridiculous decisions to your lot as he did to us.

To say the sending off wasn't... well he was studs up, nowhere near the ball, caught the player just below the knee and it was after the whistle had already blown. If your manager say's it was a red, and one of your most famous former number 9's say's it was a red, why can't you accept it?

Silly boys. Thanks to Alan Pardew for trying to be clever and taking your best player off to try to rub our noses in it by bringing Taylor on. Collocini had already ran off his cramp and seemed fine. 5 minutes later, the ball goes to where Collocini would have been and goes in off a Newcastle player. Sweet justice for the persistant time wasting and fouling that spolit the game as a spectacle, not the fact that the referee was apparently so biased.

Oh, and Larsson should have been booked for a high challenge.

Rant over! We were rubbish, you weren't much better, we were lucky to get the equaliser but equally as lucky not to get hit on the break again.

My only point is (after calming down :p) if Tiote was a red Larsson was, if Larsson wasn't Tiote wasn't.

It's over now though /shrug pre kick off I would have taken a point but I am more gutted because we looked clear winners before the red.

Also Pardew wasn't being clever, Colo was clearly struggling in his first game back after missing 7 games. Shame he had to go off but better that than another big injury problem.

We'll have to agree to disagree on that, I thought he'd ran it off.

he's far too good for you lot mind :D

I thought it was an odd move to bring Collo off as well, he was playing really well.

He'd gone down with cramp a few minutes before but I thought he'd ran it off.
I know he'd been out with an injury for a few games, but add to the fact that 'local hero' Taylor had been in the papers making his mouth go about the fact that no Sunderland player could get into Newcastles' team and he'd rather collect stamps than play for Sunderland made it appear to be Pardew trying to give him his 10 minutes of fame. He comes across as just pompous and arrogant enough to do it too.

I thought it was a needless sub, Newcastle were defending well and unless there was a clear injury leave it as it was. If anything they needed more help to try and win back the midfield.

Colo's injury was a hamstring, he got cramp in that hamstring, if you ever get a bad cramp you know you can't just "run it off", the actual cramp can go, the effects remain, tight, often bruised muscle, he's JUST come back from that injury having him run around on a muscle that caused him to miss what, the last month and a bit, is mental. Any sensible manager would have taken him off.

As for the rather useless argument of who else says what after the game, its funny how peoples opinions change based on what they say. Almost every week people laugh at Shearer's ridiculous opinion on MOTD calling him a complete moron, but the week he agrees with the one point people want to listen to, its gospel and all ex footballers know more than we do.

As for Pardew, having recently shoved a ref and had a 2 match ban... you think if he believed the ref was horrendous that this was the best time for him to have a rant about a crappy ref that ruined the game with a string of terrible decisions?

As for the ref being crap both ways, yeah, the huge number of game changing awful decisions Newcastle were almost completely negated by the what, one incorrect corner and maybe one other foul Sunderland should have got.... yeah. Its actually common for a ref to be awful for one side then seemingly make up for it with a seemingly few poor decisions for the other side to make up for it, though usually far less game changing and far less of them.

If Sunderland fans think the ref was bad for them, lol.
