Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [19th - 22nd November 2011]

Just incase anyone wants to see something a little funny watch the highlights from the game I went to on saturday. To quote the commentator "2 beyond dubious penalties given and 3 stone wall penalties not given". Plus Brighton didn't even have a chance so top of the league feels pretty cool :) but yeah one the all time worst ref performances

That first pen

I was going to mention the Soton - Brighton game after I watched the highlights last night, the penalties were mental! They deserved at least two, and they got them, but they weren't the ones that should have been given.

Brighton's lime green kit was err, something else, too.

lol, shocking, both commentary and reffing, the first one penalty claim was never in a million years, the shirt pulling, maybe, its VERY often both players pulling shirts, couldn't see what Lambert was up to on the blind side but maybe. Both penalty decisions were shocking, and obviously getting sent off for it is a joke, but when its clearly not in the penalty box, its a joke. Dive for the other penalty, possibly one other actual penalty should have been given.

Very harsh on Brighton, good to see that moron of a ref screws everyone though, not just premier league clubs. 1-0 down, no stupid penalties and no red card and Brighton could have nicked a point, no coming back after that though.

Bloody hell. Spurs didn't do a Spurs. I was watching Spurs tonight, wasn't I? I'm having my doubts.

What an absolutely exceptional first team:

Friedel: Dull. Boring. Safe. Everything a goalkeeper should be.
BAE: The perfect match for Bale down the left. Plays a lot of lovely balls for Bale to chase onto. Also hasn't had one of his silly games in a long time now.
King: No defender in the Premier League like him when he's fit. Calmness personified.
Kaboul: Likes heading things.
Walker: Blistering pace. Fastest player in a fast team. He also used to be striker and it shows.
Bale: Was up against two right backs and still got two assists.
Modric: What exactly does he do? (didnt you mean "doesn't"?)
Parker: Born leader. He's always the first one over to congratulate a player on a good pass or tackle.
Lennon: Might not skin the left back every time he gets the ball these days but his final ball is so, so much better.
VdV: World class (for 60 minutes).
Ade: Man of the match even excluding his goals. Works exceptionally hard for a 'lazy' player.

Come on - at least admit the few weaknesses in your team :D

VdV was a great gamble - incredible how many really top teams missed him (no disrespect to Spurs at all, but maybe its because he can only play 60 mins that he ended up with you

This stat is incredible !!!!

Spurs 2 AVFC 0 Stats: FT Possession %: 70.2 - 29.8 | Pass Accuracy %: 89 - 68 | Shots: 17-3 | Ground Duels Won: 50-45 | Tackle Win %: 92-75 | Most Passes: Modric (96) Most Accurate Passes: (89) Pass Accuracy %: Parker (94%) Most Shots: Adebayor (7)

17 shots, 2 goals. Efficient. :)

With regard to the Southampton game, it is staggering that Poyet thinks the penalty changed the game. Completely disregarding the blatant penalties where the decision went in favour of his team :p

My season ticket is on the complete opposite side of the pitch and I could see it wasn't in the box...

About right, I counted 3 that clearly were penalties, entirely as Brighton's game plan was to push us off the ball regardless of where they gave away anything.

Their kit is horrific too! ;)

Urm the result was harsh on Southampton. It really should have been about 4 or 5 to us. Brighton played the 1st 60 mins with 11 men and still went 1-0 down to an amazing cross (of the left foot) of our right back to Lambert on the back post. Gus Poyet's "tactics" was 10 men behind the ball and HOOF it at CMS with everyone trying to get every saints player off the ball, which even he should know doesn't work in L1 so trying it on a team that's had 2 seasons of putting up with that rubbish is idiocy of the highest order. The stats show it doesn't work anyway with Brighton having 42% possession and a single shot that wasn't even on target!

Without Steve Harper in goal they would have shown up what sub par team and manager they have. (Bit harsh but the attitude of Poyet and that LB who got sent of was embarrassing). But yeah Brighton will be 14th by default, more then enough teams that can crash out this league, no where near enough ability to actually play football properly.

:D he's a troubling individual

can anyone give an accurate figure on what spurs starting XI cost last night? £60m?

Friedel - free
Walker - 9 but that includes kyle Naughton
Kaboul - 9.5 reported
King - Academy
BAE - 3.5
Lenon - 1
Parker - 6
Modric - 16.5
Bale - 8/10
VDV - 8
ADE - Loan not sure on wages

I make it 63.5 with Bale at 10 million

pretty outstanding team for the total tbh. didn't know we'd paid that much for kaboul though! and i thought parker cost £3.5m?

I put parker higher because it was going to be 5 but west ham wanted Livermoore on loan as part of the deal so we paid an extra 1 mill to have him without the loan deal.

Wiki had kaboul as that price reported, portsmouth made 3.5 million from us on that deal.

So we could have that squad or Andy Carroll and Downing + Adam?

....no brainer!

meh we could've done without livermore tbh, even for the europa we have plenty of cover

Part of me would like the Sandro play more but it's impossible with such a settled and well-balanced midfield ahead of him.

You lot had 14 at the weekend against a much weaker team and still only managed 2 with a striker who is probably the best (form wise) in the world atm.

Norwich weaker than Villa? Not based on the respective performances at the weekend they're not nor based on the formers performances at Old Trafford and Anfield

Villa were dreadful last night really really bad, Spurs could have won 1-0 and Villa still wouldn't of mounted any form of sustained pressure
