Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [19th - 24th April 2019]

Manchester United could actually hand the title to Liverpool on Wednesday, after a performance like that there is no way there won’t be a reaction against city.
What makes you think there would be a reaction based on our performances lately? Was there a reaction off the back of the Barcelona defeats? This isn’t the United teams of old.

I wonder how many times, after a caretaker manager has been given the job on a permanent basis after doing a much better job than expected, does the form drop off a cliff once he has the job permanently?

Craig Shakespeare springs to mind. Did really well after Ranieri was sacked by Leicester, but once he had the job, it wasn't that long before it went down hill and he got the boot.

Maybe that doesn't happen as much as I am imagining...

Mike Phelan at Hull was caretaker for 3 months won manager of the month in one of them, got the job full time 3 months later was sacked!

Sherwood at Spurs and Di Matteo at Chelsea are 2 others that spring to mind as caretakers who got a good new manager bounce for a bit then it all went to pot.

Tim Sherwood also springs to mind. I don't know if there was any credible reporting behind it but surely Man Utd should have been seriously courting Zidane or Poch. I find it very odd they have not spoken to Ferguson about who they should appoint. Although the worse they are now the better he looks in retrospect.

Is it usually 3 months before they get the job permanently? not usually as long as Utd waited (or appears that way anyway).

OGS "bounce" in results was a hell of a lot better than most interim's previously - especially RDM who while conquering Europe didn't do that well in the EPL at that time. OGS was absolutely knocking the ball out of the park every game for 3 months not just results but performance wise as well. I just think the last 8- 10 games are showing how difficult it is to change to a high intensity pressing game in the middle of the season and keep the run going with so many different competitions - the historical night in Paris wwas incredible but imo we would have been FAR better off losing that 2nd leg with a shadow squad and even the FACup games just concentrating on the league

one decent left back (suspended for the last two epl games as well) , one decent centre half, a cm who plays within himself for the last 6 weeks or so(since 1st leg vs PSG) , two very high potential forwards but inconsistent , apart from that either highly payed for nowt or just bang average players.....oh plus a gk who has been a bit shakey since his horror show in Russia (apart froma few highly remarkable games)

The whole squad just isn't good enough

People keep saying ManU throwing the game against City to stop Liverpool, but I don't see Rafa trying to hard against Liverpool either. No way he will ruin his status with Liverpool fans.

Load of nonsense and it wouldn’t impact any non twitter tools opinion in Rafa, his job is to win for Newcastle

Utd aren't good enough on current performances to lay a single punch against City - so its pretty irrelevant

TAA looking woeful again in defence, been awful for months.

Hopefully he'll become similar to Bale and eventually move in to an advanced postion later on in his career.

Strange that other clubs with relatively smaller squads like wolves manage it though.

How can you play 90 mins and not have 1 shot on target ?

Our players are thumping the ball and it just stops every time lol, at least they’re adapting but wow what a trash pitch

Do Cardiff have any songs of their own other than anti English and anti opposition chants? Championship quality team, little league supporters.

Retorting to Salah’s song with ‘there is only one Sala’ is ******* sad, using a dead bloke to 1UP.

Did Cardiff have a large Brexit vote %?
