Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [19th - 24th April 2019]

Bit of a weird game that. I didn't think we played too bad in the first half - Cardiff done everything to frustrate us with how they set up and the state of the pitch but we were patient, kept plugging away and created a couple of great chances, unfortunately we couldn't take them. Second half was a bit scrappier but we got the goals and that's all that matters.

On the penalty. The desperation in Neville's commentary has been clear to see for a good few weeks now but his analysis of our penalty was a joke. The Cardiff defender has hold of Salah with both arms pushing, pulling and leaning on him - in what world can that be anything other than a foul?

What a pathetic performance by arsenal :/. I mean 3 stupidly soft goals to concede, no thanks to our defence and Mustafi.

How the **** we allowed Palace to beat us at home is beyond a joke.

I daresay Man City were saying the same thing back in December.

Possibly lol. But these sort of losses are just so highly frustrating as we are in the prime position to get 3rd or 4th but we always keep somehow ******* it up.

TBF after the equaliser they were looking good value to go on and take the lead... then Mustafi Mustafi'ed and they didn't really recover from that.

Another utterly shocking performance from United - totally devoid of any passion/commitment/quality

United need a wholesale clear out of players who simply aren't good enough.

It won't happen but as a life long United fan, players who need to go -
  • Jones & Smalling - hangover from Fergie days and simply have NEVER been good enough CB for the Premier League - Every game they are both a mistake waiting to happen
  • Young - done a job for us for a few years, but simply not good enough anymore at the top level.
  • Matic - too slow, 1 season wonder. Nothing creative, nothing in terms of bossing the middle of the park
  • Lukaku - awful - simply awful - no effort, needs 5 chances to score 1, can't hold the ball up "for a big man" - brings nothing in terms of power/pace etc - just seems happy to wander around all day.
  • Sanchez - kind of feel sorry for him injury wise but at £400k a week plus £75k a game - could easily get 2 or 3 quality players to replace him. Bought simply to have him NOT go to City.
  • Martial - Looks like a world beater one game, then like a schoolboy in the next 3. Far to inconstant, looks utterly disinterested most of the time
  • Pogba - the biggest problem - Can you build a team around him?? Is he already looking for his next team? I just don't know - looks like the £100 million player he is for 2 games, then goes completely missing in the next 5. No idea what I'd do with him
Without going into detail - Other players that i would happily see go - Fred, Valencia, Darmian

Just awful....

I'd keep rashford and bring in young talent Pogba can go Luka can go Jones smalling Fred matic darmien Sanchez Bially young can all go aswell use what money you get to rebuild with a long term plan and stick to it

Problem is, it’s all well and good us (me included) listing all the players that we need rid of, but what will actually be available and obtainable by us this summer... not going to get it all sorted for at least 3 windows in my opinion and that’s if we are really savvy and the new players take to the PL etc

Thats why I said go for decent youngsters bring the better ones through chong and the likes and buy for the future and stick to the plan as what were doing now isn't working

Manchester United ran 8.03km less than Everton; the biggest negative difference for United in a Premier League game since defeat to Spurs in August 10.2km less). They have ran less than their opponents in 15 out of 17 games under Solskjaer, and it has not always been doom and gloom. They have, however, lost six of their past eight games.

It seems like United are a bit lazy, I said before that pace is important and that Solkjaer recognises it but you still have to combine it with a strong work ethic.

Not a great game against Cardiff today. Did what we had to do. The hilarity of Neville’s commentary ref the pen was just something else. It’s just such blatant bias.

I feel like Rashford is a: Clevery, Lingard, Wellbeck, Januzaj, Fletcher and Evans to name a few. Good but not consistant enough to keep, if someone is going to offer a decent fee then move him on.

edit: Anyhow this weekends results were about as good for chelsea as they could be. I expect them and spurs to be top 4 now

Solskjaer will struggle to bring in quality players this summer, especially without CL football.

I really don't understand the decision to appoint him as manager before the end of the season. His not the right man to oversee a substantial rebuild imo.

Any player coming in must be thinking who will be manger in January.

It's going to take an enormous clear-out to sort out the United squad, the list of players I'd keep is shorter than the players I'd get rid of. We have too many players who don't seem commited enough to the team, or who care but simply aren't up to the standard required.

You look at City, Liverpool and Spurs and none of them have passengers, even the big star names have bought into the project their respective managers are putting in place. Most of our star players are lazy and seem more bothered by their endorsements and social media than football.

If the likes of Pogba and Martial want out then let them go.
