Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [19th - 24th April 2019]

I hope Utd get drawn against sides in Kazakhstan, Estonia and Azerbaijan in the Dog and Duck Cup next season, their fans deserve those trips.

The fix is easy. Sell Utd to those dodgy Saudia billionaires and buy your way to the top like City. Liverpool are in a golden period no doubt but they are not going to stay there forever. City with their unlimited funds will be a powerhouse for decades.

This is one thing I like about Liverpool, they aren't owned by the likes of City's owners, and have done an excellent job running the club. Losing their best players and strengthening. If they win the league then fair play to them.

I don't think it's over yet - both Liverpool and City could have an off day and still drop points.

Well credit to Utd, they gave it a go, but even if they tried 100% they just arent good enough to beat City.

All I can hope for now is a Burnley or Leicester miracle.

Going to be insanity if we end the season with 95pts, the player of the year , the golden boot winner, the golden glove winner, conceding the fewest goals in the league and only losing 1 match but still not win the title.

I dont know how you go about lifting the morale of the players in the summer in that situation

Yeah if City do win it, I can see it being a good few years before Liverpool get this close again.

The team is much stronger than the previous 2 times they’ve came close but City will only improve and Liverpool will likely sell on a big player for huge money again when Madrid or Barca come knocking. Van Dijk and Salah aren’t going to hang around if next season is another trophy less one.

Still have a great chance at the Champions League.

97pts if they win the last 3 isn't it? I was thinking this today to. It's just mental to think that 97 points wouldn't win you the league when it would be the 3rd highest points total ever (assuming Man City finish on 98).

It is a sad state really. I hate the Pool with a passion but their is no denying what they have done as a club is fantastic. With the exception of Keita all their transfers have been great. City will get all the plaudits winning the double or whatever but it is just all oil money. For every decent player they have bought for mega bucks they have had ten rubbish ones.

Yeah it is, I had a bit of a brain fart there.

We most likely wont have another season where we do as well as this for quite some time, to come away from that, with all those stats, empty handed must be pyschologically crushing for the players. (If it ends up being the case)

I know you hope we'd sell one of our big players but I'm curious as to who you think there's a realistic possiblity leaving?

As for your general assessment, I'd say there's more room for improvement for Liverpool than City. City have a number of key players who are 30+ and approaching the end of their career at the highest level. Sure they're going to spend big money to replace them but to just do that, replace them, is going to be very difficult let alone improve on them. The only real area of their side you could really improve on is LB and there's hardly a load of top class fullbacks about. Our squad on the other hand is full of younger players reaching their prime years and unlike you, I don't see any key players leaving this summe. This will hopefully be a summer where we can add the a bit more creativity in midfield that City have over us and more importantly a bit more depth in attack.
