Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [1st - 2nd September 2012]

Welbeck in 71 minutes did nothing except break up our attacks
Nani in 30 odd mins set up the winning goal

Yeah perhaps he should have started.

The corner was the only thing Nani did good, yes that may be 1 more thing than what Welbeck did but lets not fool ourselves Nani was quite possibly even worse than he was against Everton when he came on

EDIT: It's also worth pointing out the 2 or 3 totally amateur corners Nani put in before that one as well

You knew Man Utd would do what they just did, although it happens to teams who crumble themselves.

The Southampton manager substituted his 3 top performers, gave United the initiative to continue attacking when there was a healthy amount of time remaining in the game.

Before that you would have thought Southampton were Barcelona in disguise, although I have to say United make opposing teams look like Barcelona often with that midfield they have.

Nobody gave them a chance, yet they played brilliantly.
United all the same problems in midfield..

I didn't say anything like that, I said he should have started, which he clearly should have!

We need players like Nani, even on a bad day he can still create or score something. Welbeck is ok up front and utter **** out wide. He shouldn't have started, when will Fergie learn this?

And had he started he'd of been as frustrating as Welbeck was (and as frustrating as he was when he came on) and would have been subbed.

Well RvP's were hardly good! Have you ever thought perhaps we just don't practice them much? The number of players we've had taking them and attacking them and we've been **** at corners since Beckham was at the club really.

Absolutely but I'm not the one moaning about Nani (who once again was rubbish) should have started ;)

Coming out of this game the only player who came on and showed he should have started was Scholes

De Gea has to play next week. Lindegaard was poor today, I don't think he had much chance with either goal but his kicking was just crap. The only reason we came close to winning the title last season was Lindegaard being injured and Fergie being forced to stick with De Gea, he's going to ruin all that if he goes back to rotating them every time one of them makes a mistake.

You can see him grimace just as his foot connects with the ball and he's obviously thinking what the **** have I done! Haha :D

Have to laugh at everyone jumping on the bandwagon after the penalty, eating your words now I suspect? ;)

Hernandez looked as sharp as Ive seen him all pre season when he came on, be good to have him back to the way he played 2 seasons ago.

Southampton threw it away, no idea how many times I've been angry at Wenger for taking off the best or sometimes only great performers on the pitch rather than the worst players then see a game tanked because without the best player on the day the team crumbles.

Unless for injury protection in a tight game or one against a quality team who can easily come back at you, you do not take off the guys who are playing better than anyone else.

If Southampton were still running riot at the back against a seriously dodgy defence Utd would have been more likely to lose by a bigger margin than win. As they pushed forward Evra/Raf's mistakes could have cost them worse and worse, look at the City game where Utd did exactly the wrong thing.

Either way, RVP is epic, too many Utd players aren't good enough, and every time you give the likes of Welbeck an 80k contract, you're just weakening the team. The whole league is up to that though so might not effect the league too much, but the gap between Utd and the best teams in the champs league looks like its growing rather than shrinking.

Yep, apart from one rather rubbish shot when he had options left and right Hernandez did look very sharp when he came on

I suspect he'll be going away with Mexico now but if he doesn't then he should start with RVP against Wigan

I think Carrick needs dropping for that, he was far worse than De Gea was. Perhaps dropping him will make him buck his ideas up (like it has for Scholes who was much better when he came on today)

RVP knew he had missed that pen(or hadn't scored) before he hit it!

RVP said:
"I don't know what I was thinking with the penalty. I was going to hit it hard but at the last second I changed my mind," Van Persie said.

"I'm quite disappointed about it. I ask a certain standards from my game and at 2-1 down you cannot take a penalty like that.

Absolutely gutted by that, biggest mistake was Rodriguez on the left, doesn't work! Especially when he's basically lambert 2.0 :(

United need to sort out their rvp chant, appealing nonsense!

Very pleased with ward-prouse in the middle, for 17 he was real class.

Pains me to think it but united do get some favours off the ref, the Pen was an amazing tackle, rafael should have been off for the fox tackle and evra needed a booking for diving...

Scholes was their best player by a mile, no idea why he didn't start
