Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [2 - 3rd November 2013]

What a crap early afternoon, both the race and football were equally awful, was hoping this game would give me a reason to not watch most of the race but it was just as boring. :(

Spurs's football to me seems to be going the direction it was under Chelsea with AVB, misusing the squad, playing overly defensive boring football, dropping needless points by being so negative, playing the wrong striker/setup. He seems to revel in playing as little creativity in central midfield as possible and wonders why the team looks pretty awful with so little in central midfield.

Spur's inability to score goals from anywhere but a counter attack or a Bale bullet is something I have banged on about for 4 seasons. We couldn't do it under Harry and we cant seem to work out how to do it under AVB.

I don't think AVB is playing the squad particularly badly. His lineup today was balanced and aggressive in the midfield; Sandro is a superb DM, Paulinho is a strong box to box player and Holtby is an excellent playmaker.

I think the players are still gelling, because they complete lack of running off the balls into space smacks of poor understanding rather than laziness or a lack of ability.

Under Arry we were banging them in, at one point we were averaging 3 goals a game but were conceding equally as quick.

He has them set up to be incredibly difficult to beat and hope that they can nick something. Spurs have turned into Stoke.

The vast majority of those were on the break; teams attacked us because we were soft and then we broke on them and scored. Once we had the lead more goals would come on the counter as the losing team had to attack more.

I would like to see AVB experiment by playing Holtby, Eriksen, Dembele, Townsend and Siggy as a line up. We would need some flying full backs but that is about the most attacking midfield we could play.

Eriksen behind the striker, Townsend and Siggy wide with Dembele and Holtby supporting.

What a borefest but a nil nil is a far result for both teams. Totenham might not be playing well but have managed to keep pace with Liverpool, and if they do gel as a team I can see them fighting hard with manu, city, Chelsea and Arsenal for a top four spot
