Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [2 - 3rd November 2013]

Just watching the fallout of Spurs' decision to allow Lloris to play on, on SSN. It seems like a lot of people aren't too happy with Spurs' decision and there's calls for changes in the rules that would prevent a player continuing in future.

I have to say, after reading AVB and Dawson's views on it last night, the decision for Lloris to play on didn't sit right with me. I can't say I noticed it at the time but Dawson said that Lloris legs gave way when he first tried to stand up. And despite what Spurs are now saying (the medical team were happy for him to continue), I thought it was pretty clear that the doc/physio wanted him to come off and that it was AVB that made the decision based on Lloris wanting to play on, which he admitted in his post match interview.

Thankfully it doesn't appear like Lloris suffered any serious damage.

It was very obvious at the time, I said it was entirely stupid to let a concussed player choose if he plays on. The doc wanted him off, Dawson seemed to essentially be begging the player to leave, then about half the team over and tried to talk him off the pitch.

Thing is a completely sound of mind non concussed player would leave when asked to anyway, the fact he wouldn't, the look in his face when they got to the edge of the pitch, he was basically fighting the guys trying to protect him and that itself is a bad sign.

It was insane they didn't basically drag him off the pitch, and completely understandable that Lloris didn't want to leave, but he was so clearly not in a state of mind to make a sensible/safe choice.

I completely agree with what others have said, in American football, American soccer, rugby pretty much around the globe and many other sports you aren't given the option, you get concussed, you have to go off. American football is an odd one as they had this whole lawsuit thing going on recently about older players suing for almost the exact reason that the NFL for years let players with head injuries take hit after hit when they knew it was a bad idea. Though I think that is more a case of recovery time and particular guys who got several concussions still being used too often. I don't know when they made it mandatory they would go off after a concussion.

The choice can't be left with a guy who has a concussion and isn't actually capable of thinking straight and the people in charge of his safety made completely the wrong call yesterday.

Moyes never wins against top 4 teams in the league, I really hope he doesn't break that tradition next week.

I think the stat was he hadn't beaten Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool or Utd away. He picked up the odd win at home.

Yeah it's not as horrendous as it would seem, Utd and City and Spurs, all at home. Year before was City, Chelsea and Spurs again all home. Year before that was Liverpool, Spurs, City and Chelsea at home and... City away :o

09/10 City, Chelsea, Utd home and City away.

Everton this year though are 2 points up on last year, which was probably 5 points on average ahead of where Everton have been in the 5 years before last season. So Martinez is beaten Moyes best Everton start in the past 6 years already and beating Moyes average start by pretty much 50% which is pretty ridiculous.

from 08-12 Everton lost anything from 3-6 games out of the first 10, this and last year it's only 1 loss in the first 10 games. So there has been a pretty massive improvement in Everton in the past two years, but Martinez is still doing better.

Everton started great last year but then went on a streak of draws, game 7-17 was 2 wins, 1 loss 8 draws. If Martinez can extend this mostly winning streak over the next 7 games they could end up significantly ahead of where they were last year. This is including the team being "meh" in the first 3 games adapting to playing much more passing, possession and attacking football.

I have a feeling Martinez's Everton will pretty much embarrass Moyes's Everton in his first season.

very good site for quickly finding results for various clubs and going back multiple seasons and various other stats.

Should be an interesting game, Arsenal vs Utd. I normally go into the game thinking a draw would be a good result but I wouldnt be surprised with an Arsenal win this year.

But on history I also wouldnt be surprised if we lost lol

Even if we win people will still say its not the same Utd who we beat and still not title contenders. Worst that happens is that we lose and are still 2 pts clear at top ;)

Would definitely taken that at start of the season. Would be a good confidence builder if we beat Utd though.

Whats that saying about results against the other top four teams not counting for much in comparision to how you do vs everyone else.....something along those lines anyway.

It helps considerably that nearly everyone is capable of beating everyone else - which keeps for the most part, the table close on points (after ten games three points covering 2nd - 8th and 13-18th)

It was a good feeling last weekend to not lose ground on Arsenal and City and gain against the other 5 teams (especially Chelsea).

I wouldnt be surprised if Arsenal won this Sunday, but IF those Utd players who are still fit can play as a team they should certainly give them a good game at the very least.

edit - It counts for squat where you start, all that matters is where you finish

Arsenal are the underdogs!

Please dont make us favourites as thats when we are likely to **** up lol!

i am expecting just a draw or a loss. No way can arsenal beat United. we are not lucky yet!

I think whoever wins the title will have lady luck on there side.

Champions of the past have always had lady luck!

Random FA bans as usual. The Fulham player was rightly banned but nothing was done about Soldado's elbow that went unpunished.

No issue with the ban, it was the correct thing to do. However, the FA make a rod for their own backs by failing to punish other incidents.
