Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [2 - 4th March 2013]

Job done. Bit careless in defence and Wigan could've scored two or three had it not been for Reina but we looked great going forwards. When Johnson stops Bale next week it'll be another three points in the bag :cool:

Few Suarez stats:

  • First player to 20 league goals this season;
  • Only Owen and Rooney have scored more Premiership hattricks away from home;
  • 11 goals in his last 11 games;
  • He's now scored as many goals this season as Torres has in his Chelsea career;
  • Equalled Liverpool record of 10 away goals in a season;
  • 90 games for Liverpool, 49 goals and 21 assists.

MOTD@1025PM: 1.Southampton/QPR, 2.Man Utd/Norwich, 3.Wigan/Liverpool, 4.Everton/Reading, 5.Sunderland/Fulham, 6.Chelsea/West Brom, 7.Stoke/West Ham, 8.Swansea/Newcastle

enough of that nonsense. massive game tmw :D

Like vs Swansea it's hard to read too much into todays game as Wigan were terrible. That said, Coutinho looked class in the first half, Reina made some great saves and Suarez was he genius self.
Skrtel not on the bench? ****ing hell

No idea what's up with him :(

He's injured you tarts.
Definitely gonna have a cheeky dabble on him winning player of the year. 40/1 is outrageous.

You're wasting your money. No matter whether he deserves it or not, there's not a chance he'll win it.

Yep save your money on suarez betting. He would need to score twice as many goals to get an award now I think. The only person making money from suarez will be his agent this summer. He must be rubbing his hands in glee. 35m I reckon this summer.

Every week his profile is rocketing.

I know my opinion counts for moot with you and other people on here, but I really, really rate Coutinho, I think (as long as he's playing) he'll be a fantastic player for L'pool.

Probably because he's done nothing of note in the Premier League, so far. People point to his role with Dortmund, but it has to be remembered that hardly tells the whole story - there are the commonly referred to stats about Sahin in the Dortmund team, but he's hardly done well at Real/Liverpool, since.

Sahin was different was he not? Sahin couldn't crack the Real Madrid team (I mean, look at how ineffective Modric has been) and I always thought he was a player who Real purchased to stop him going to a rival. He's been farmed out on loan a couple of times from Real (iirc) and he was ~ok in the Dutch league but I'm not really sure what his move to Liverpool was about, I wasn't that impressed with his move to Real nor did his move to Liverpool excite me in the same vein that either Kagawa's move or Coutinho's move did.

Did you see much of Dortmund? / Inter? Kagawa was a better player and so was Coutinho than Sahin. Stats don't tell you the entire story. I mean, look at Arsenal fans when I said they should have splashed the cash on Hazzard instead of getting Gervinho but they insisted that Gervinho was a better buy based on better stats. Hazzard (who I'll agree hasn't set the world alight) is just a better footballer, same can be said for Kagawa and Coutinho.

Does that make sense? I've been on the wine :D.

Everyone knew about Hazard... he's been sick on Football Manager for years. My point was just that loads of people aren't swooning re: Kagawa because he hasn't done anything of note in the UK, and past performance isn't a solid indicator of future success (Sahin being an example, given they rose to fame/shone in the same team).

People aren't swooning over Kagawa (mainly Manchester United fans) because they expect the world from a player straight away. Kagawa, to me, is still adjusting to a different team, country, league and playing style.

He ability is undoubted, he's quick, he's technical and he's had some good games and made some very good contributions to games. What has he not done of note? Score and assist? While I'll never discount either, I feel his contribution has been dismissed more than it deserves and he has been unfairly treated by certain sections of fans.

Past performance? You mean past statistics, performances tell you a lot about a player, watching players rather than reading stats tell you more about a player. Evidently people don't watch players and form opinions and expectations based on statistics, unrealistic expectations and opinions. Everyone can't have known about Hazzard? Arsenal fans didn't or obviously they wouldn't have been so happy over Gervinho, a player they judged on statistics and formed an opinion of from statistics, else they can't have thought he was a better buy than Hazzard would have been, that's hypothetical to an extent.

It's hard to 'judge' a player without seeing him play, but many people are happy to form an opinion and an expectation based on a statistic. There is also more to players that just these things, there is of course their state of mind.

I expect DM to disagree in a lot of words.

Do any Liverpool fans know how many tickets they were allocated for yesterday? Entire stand?

EDIT: Nevermind, just seen MOTD.

Everybody with a passing interest in football has known about Eden Hazzard for years to be fair.
