Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [20th - 24th April 2012]

How many forward, etc, though? Eg. When Barca play, aren't there a ridiculous number of passes back and forwards between Xavi and Pique, generally speaking, which tots up loads of fairly pointless passes, which just make the stats look even better than they would.

They're not pointless are they? It's about moving the opposition around the pitch looking to create openings.

Before today;

Modric - 2765 minutes
Cabaye - 2486 minutes

The difference is the equivalent of roughly 3 games

how many passes was forward? how many where sideways? how many where backwards?

Pass complete ratios mean very little.

Cabaye and Tiote work rate is second to none. Closing down, wining the ball. Both are not afraid to play the ball forward or take risks to win the game.

So he's played 10% fewer minutes and his pass success rate is 10% less.

I'm sure those numbers could be reworked to produce other statistics and no doubt the conclusions drawn from those statistics could support both arguments depending on how you skew them.

I think someone said earlier stats aren't the be-all and end-all.

That just goes to prove it.

Quite a few of them are fairly pointless, when you see them. It's basically them passing the ball back and forth whilst waiting to see a pass opening up, ha (not even to avoid people closing them down, or anything like that). My point being that you could do ten of them and achieve nothing, or you could do one proper forward pass and achieve more. So, Modric having twice as many passes doesn't mean he's done twice as much good stuff... it could just mean that Cabeye's done the same amount of good stuff, but without the fluff.

Spurs aren't Barcelona though are they so you can't use one argument you have for Barca and simply apply it to Spurs and Modric and to my knowledge Modric and King don't have a private love affair like you're suggesting Xavi and Pique have.

People say it's because of 'Arry manager job speculation, but the initial slump coincided with them playing the hard run of games (y'know, against their top four competition)... and they were found wanting.

it was to do with the redknapp/england job the most. it cannot be a coincidence.

anyway, keep bleating on about us and barca you nut lol

posting this in hope that spurs actually get some bottle and win
