Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [20th - 24th April 2012]

He's only at loan at you isn't he? To be honest you need to buy some decent to replace him, he's a great Championship target man but not good enough for the Prem.

No we bought him. Did not pay a lot of money and to be honest, he has been the catalyst for our promotion. He has been fantastic on the pitch for us and I hear that behind the scenes he has really gelled the squad. Big team player and although not prolific, he adds a lot of depth. Great at laying off the ball and holding the ball up. He has made our other strikers much more effective.

I think he has something to give us next season though I expect we shall be getting at least one new striker. :)

Get Long back, seems to be warming the bench at WBA. Blackburn could have used Roberts but I suppose having Yakubu in the team Roberts would never get a look in. Grayson looked at him before he left, of course only being able to offer him some pork scratchings and £5 a week was the stumbling block there.

Funny you mention Yakubu as one of my friends swears we are looking at him as a strike partner!

I would love to see Long come back, as well as Sigurdsson (if he does not go somewhere bigger). Kevin Doyle is another ex-player who could be available as well and I would also love to see him back where he belongs.

Well you have plenty of money to spend, Doyle, if you could bag him for cheap he would be good, I don't really rate him that highly, he did great for you when you originally got promoted but he never really impressed me much at Wolves, but that could be the stumbling block I suppose...being at Wolves.

Sigurdsson I imagine everyone will be looking at, you got a hefty amount for him and I'm sure you'd have to double it to get him back!

You have a good team anyway, young as well. Kebe, Karacan, Leighterwood, Hunt etc all great players. Why we ever released Harte I do not know :(

What is going on in Italy at the Napoli game?! Hahaha

Blatantly some sort of betting scam, ref allegedly injured after 30s by raising his arm to give a freekick or something, causing an 18min delay, was probably one of those "correct score after 15mins" type markets.

even if we bomb and lose the final 4 games we will finish top 6 and be in Europe next

Technically in that situation, if Everton were to win all their games then you'd finish below them on goal difference. Unlikely though :)

Out of interest how far back is "recent"?

Deliberately didn't put a date on it, my gut feeling was 3 seasons during which I'd expect so-called 'top' clubs to be qualifying for Europe on a consistent basis or winning trophies.

Looking at Newcastle they haven't played in Europe in over 5 years and haven't won a trophy in a lot longer so by my rationale they don't qualify for the tag (yet).

I really don't know whats more ridiculous, Spurs have only won 1 game in 9, which is just shocking for a top half team, or the fact that, if they win the game in hand they'd still only be 3 points behind Arsenal.

It is hilarious how bad they've been, 6 points out of the last 27, yet you see barely any change from Harry, the same few tricks "try Sandro in midfield, tell Bale to do what he wants and shoot a lot".

Decent end to Saturday EPL wise, all to play for, hope Wigan have it sealed before last day, big day tomorrrow, come on Everton and Man City

Haha, 'Arry the next England manager Redknapp, joke.

Under performed with this Spurs squad / team, should have done better over the last couple of seasons. Tactically inept, relies on media friends to shield him from criticism.

Well done to Newcastle, but especially well done to QPR still have my fingers crossed that Rangers can stay up

What the **** happened to Spurs - great up to the penalty spot and then devoid of ideas (except a couple of good saves from Kenny), still not convinced it will be good for NFC to get CL qualification for next season, but if they hang on in there good luck to them

Really nervous about tomorrow

we don't deserve cl football, not just on that performance but on the way we've crumbled since feb

time for a clear out. cash in, re-try. sick to the back teeth of it. we're a good team on paper but something's gone badly wrong.

what a great last month or so though. don't tell me you didn't expect it to be easy tottenham fans?! mind the gap lol
