Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [20th - 24th April 2012]

Before our very first pre-season game Hodgson claimed the most important thing about pre-season was avoiding heavy defeat. That's not a comment any Liverpool supporter ever wants to hear and certainly isn't something Dalglish would ever dare say.

Nah Dalglish just says stuff like shirt deals are as important as points :p

Got a link to that?

This was what I was getting at and there is no CL money to back it up. That and the duds Kenny has signed are not going to be easy to shift as they are on wages which they won't get at the level they will end up at and they won't sell at a decent value.

I doubt Liverpool will do anything as dramatic as Leeds/Toon but they could struggle a lot unless they hit CL again soon.

Not that any of our signings over the past 18 months are on huge money anyway but I'd be surprised if any of them leave this summer.

It's been reported in pretty much every press report I have ever read on Carroll that he was on 90k. He was on 55k at Newcastle and the board reported he left for "substantially higher wages" or some twist on that phrase but I may be wrong.

I've not seen any reputable source claim he's earning anything like that. There was a thing in the press a few months back claiming he was earning £60k per week (the story was mainly about him getting a fairly nominal loyalty bonus despite only being with us for a year).

I'd be surprised if you were paying him so much just a season after being promoted.

£67k per week just checked, but that's from last year which doesn't account for he yearly wage rises and bonuses

I'd love to know where you checked that.

I'm only going off fairly reliable reports at the time when they signed, that his and Suarez's combined wage was around the same as what Torres was earning by himself (which was reportedly around the £120k mark).

Half way down the page

I tend not to write anything unless I have he black and white to back it up

Do you realise that the table is made up from educated guesses as to what Liverpool's squad is earning? Liverpool's accounts for the past 2 seasons haven't even been released yet and they never break down player wages either. Short of seeing his payslip, we'll never know for sure how much he's earning.

Anyway, if you want to go off that table, Carroll's earning £67k per week not the £90k you initially said (where's the black and white to back that up? :p) and there's no mention of any yearly wage rises or further bonus payments on top of that £67k in the article.
