Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [21st - 24th Jan 2012]

dm mode on.

Bar this game I've been very happy with our defence. They've all played very well this season and as a unit have helped us to where we are in the league. Also very happy to have Kelly, Robinson, Aurelio, Coates and Carragher as the defensive cover, same goes for Spearing as cover for Lucas. Everything ahead of the defensive positions is a complete mess and will need millions to put right.

Adams - Looked out of his depth at times last season with Blackpool and has been appalling this season bar two or three games. I'm convinced we bought him because of the amount of goals and assists he got last season but that's not hard when you're the only player taking free kicks and penalties. Take those away from him and you get the player we see today, one that's massively out of his depth in the Premiership and doesn't belong anywhere near Liverpool FC. Needs replacing ASAP.

Bellamy - Our brightest attacking player this season and would've played more had it not been for his knees. At 32 he can't be relied upon for more than a season so will need replacing in the summer.

Downing - 21 Premiership games, no goals and no assists. Needs replacing ASAP.

Henderson - Absolutely useless out on the right but far better in the centre. Works very hard and is very intelligent with the ball but needs to be more creative and get amongst the goals. High hopes for him in the future if played through the centre.

Gerrard - Still our best midfielder by a mile but the days of driving runs through the middle and pulling us out of the **** week in week out are long gone. Recent injuries should've prolonged his career by a season but will need replacing in two or three years.

Kuyt - Legs have gone. Needs replacing in the summer.

Maxi - One of our most creative players over the last two seasons and has been a fantastic servant but his time at Liverpool is up. Will be replaced in the summer.

Carroll - We don't suit him and he doesn't suit us. Needs replacing ASAP.

Suarez - Our most creative player on paper but often has to do everything by himself. With better players around him he would be getting goals and assists for us in most games but usually ends up running himself in to the ground. I'm sure his 8 game ban will do wonders for his fitness after not having a break for so long but I'm worried he could look to move away from England in the summer :(

dm mode off.

RT @RebeccaLowe11: Dalglish just said some players won't be in red shirts much longer if play like that again. Said they were disrespectful

Whilst I agree with Kenny he could at least some of the blame himself, granted he always credits the players with the win compared to Hodgson who would claim it was himself but his choice to play that midfield was retarded.

EDIT: Pigeon in reference to Gerrard if he was actually played in a forward role i'm sure he could easily play the three years, it is whats behind him is the problem supplying and defending, it won't be a day too soon Lucas is back and Henderson should play beside him.

Stevie needs to play either like Alonso did for us, or as a creative forward player. Box to box must surely be a thing of the past.

Yeah, but he is perfectly capable of being a very good player in those two positions, and he looked stunning in 08/09 as a creative attacking player.

Nice spelling of Stevie before the edit btw :p

It's not my style. I tend to post short emotionally charged nonsense a few seconds after an event rather than long and considered nonsense after a match :p
You think DM actually considers his posts?

I think he just doesn't have a stop button. He's like that gif of the guy angrily turning his hands into stumps on a keyboard.

You make some very good points.

Bellamy is our only real threat with pace, and is the only player that will scare a defence. The british turds bought in jan/august are a joke - complete lack of any quality or ability. All creativity and goals we had from midfield disappeared with aquilani and meireles - why they were given away is another mystery.

As much of a legend he is, Kenny will not make us a champions league team - he is looking out of his depth. People say this team is playing better than Hodgson's - tbh i cant really see much of a difference.

I wouldn't be surprised if the owners replace Kenny at the end of the season, and i think that would be good for us in the long run. He has been given plenty of cash to waste on so called british talent - the only was our free transfer!

Although he lost his way somewhat in his last season, the team under Rafa was 100% better than this rubbish - he had less resources, craPPY onwers looking over his shoulder, but still got us in the CL. And our football was much better than this.

How times change :(

I don't necessarily disagree with most of what you've said it's just over the top.

Adam had a steady start to the season and was starting to strike up a great partnership with Lucas then Lucas got injured and since then, his form has fallen away and the answer as to why is easy. At Blackpool he played in a 3 man midfield where he had the freedom to roam around the pitch; not only have we more often than not played with a 2 man CM but with the Lucas injury, he's the one that's being asked to be the most defensive/restricted midfielder. He's being asked to play a role that he's not capable of doing. As I've said before, our priority should be buying cover for Lucas not a striker because that's been our biggest loss.

Carroll's not been good enough but he doesn't need to be sold asap. He's had a disruptive first 12 months; injury problems, being in and out of the side and trying to play in a new system. He's got the potential to become a very good forward though and both he and the side need to learn to play with each other. His biggest problem is confidence though; at Newcastle you'd see him bully defenses where as now he doesn't seem to fancy the fight.

Downing's the one that has until the summer to prove himself. He had a great first few games and was massively unlucky not to have got himself a few goals and assists but since then he's had minimal effect of games and only occasionally popped up with a cross. Like Carroll, he looks shot of confidence but unlike Carroll, he's not got the excuse of systems/style of play nor is he likely to improve over the next couple of years.

I agree, sometimes you have to hold your hands up and take the criticism. Commoli/Kenny got this one wrong. Ship him out, take whatever flak they have to take over this fiasco and move on.

i concur. these things happen. he was never going to fit into liverpools style and the price tag is a massive burden. a classic example of a quick fix for torres going but commoli should've known better, just because a player bangs them in at one club, doesn't mean they'll do it at another. some players will, some wont, carroll looks to be the latter.

i feel a lot of liverpool supporters would feel better if he went at a cut price or was even loaned out for the rest of the season, get his confidence back and have another bash. imagine what someone like o'neill could do with carroll for the rest of the season at sunderland? would be great for both clubs.

Liverpool and big name signings just dont work, most have been flops and we have had the odd geem like Alonso,Torres and suares, generally over the years we have wasted silly money on so many players :(
