Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [22 - 26th December 2012]

Not that I can hold it against him but given Williams is the guy who publicly said he wanted to knock Suarez out I can believe it was intentional, RVP's reaction was certainly one that would suggest there is previous between the pair of them as well (either in previous games or something else happened in today's game)

I dont expect RVP to be missing the next game through a near death injury though :p

Yeah having my neck snap sideways violently and at an awkward angle wouldn't be possibly life threatening since it was only a football that done it.

Talk about OTT. I've had balls kicked at me from two yards countless times, in the face, in my crotch, you name it :p It hurts but never did I think I could die...

Loads of people may want to KO Suarez, that doesn't mean they'd go and punt a ball at him at every opportunity.

RVP's reaction was that of a frustrated striker that had his fair share of fouls, getting a ball slammed at him. Annoyance, nothing to do with previous meetings IMO.

To call it near death is comical.

Loads of people aren't stupid enough to publicise it though, Williams is obviously a bit stupid and kicking a ball at someone's head would be another example of doing something stupid

To be fair though I think a professional football player kicks the ball a lot harder than a overweight pub football player :p

But I do get your point

We were poor today (Villa), just didn't turn up and our young, inexperienced defense got shown up. Bannan was absolutely appalling today.

van Persie will be a bit sore tomorrow I imagine but it was never that dangerous. However, if Williams can't avoid someone's head from two yards then he's barely a footballer. He says he kicked the ball in "frustration" which suggests he knew play had stopped when he did it but I don't think it was on purpose, he's just ****.

What are you on about, RVP has absolutely no clue at all who kicked the ball at him, just that he was attacked from behind and got up and reacted like that. He's not even facing him when it happens, gets smacked and reacts, it could have been the ref behind him, it wouldn't have mattered. As for wanting to knock Suarez out, its because he's a cheating **** and 99% of professional footballers would agree with him.

If he did it on purpose or not is only known to one person, he could as easily be looking at the ball as at RVP, he could as easily have miskicked it as aimed a perfect shot.

No, you're being incredibly naive, firstly no one is saying that is an odd's on 2:1 chance to die, but having your head snapped forwards IS incredibly dangerous, denying that is just ridiculously daft, AND the back of your head is INCREDIBLY vunerable. Being smacked in the face isn't half as dangerous as being hit from behind, hence in boxing a punch to the back of the head is illegal while the aim of the sport is to hit the other guy(mostly in the face) which should give you some indication of how vunerable the back of the head is.

THe neck is not designed to be whipped around and the chances of him dying were relatively low, but significantly higher than most situations you'd find on a football pitch. Its reckless, violent and stupid to smash the ball into someones head(and really hitting any body part), and should we ignore the fact that in all likelyhood Williams is a far bit larger, stronger and you know a professional football player and the chances of his clearance having more power than Dave down the local footie place is pretty damn high.

I've been hit in the face, doesn't mean I would claim that Mike Tyson hitting me in the face would be the same thing.

For those saying the angle makes it look closer than it was in that gif, it really doesn't. You can quite clearly see relative to the keeper how far away from the keeper and how close to RVP is he.

I can completely understand RVP's reaction because from HIS point of view all he knows is he was fouled and someone unnecessarily blasted it absolutely full power right into the back of his head. He did pretty well to not be knocked out tbh, we've all seen people take a ball in the face and be knocked unconcious on the field(yet more proof it would barely have hurt right  ).

Can't decide who made me laugh/cringe most on Sky today, Ray Wilkins for his analysis of the City winner but I think he was well beaten by "it could have killed him" :p

What are you on about, RVP knew exactly who did it

*After watching Sky's replays of it after the Chelsea/Villa game it's increasingly hard to argue Williams didn't know exactly what he was doing either
