Agreed with Jamie Redknapp yesterday you do worry for football when Wilshere gets booked for a tackle like that, gets the ball, not dangerous, hasn't gone through the bloke from behind, basically he's slid in from the side not miles off the ground or anything and Maloney has gone over his legs. Essentially what most people would call a good slide tackle, if you are going to have a situation where you aren't allowed to make any contact with the player at all then it almost makes the slide tackle redundant because most of the time aside from trying to stop the ball going out of play it only gets used when you need to i.e. to stretch and reach the ball so by definition the opposition player must be closeby.
I get the whole point about wanting to stamp down on dangerous play and getting the ball first doesn't necessarily mean a tackle isn't dangerous but the interpretation of what is dangerous/reckless seems a bit OTT at times.
As for the Williams/RVP thing I'm not convinced he was trying to smash the ball into him, more the usual frustrated punt up field when they feel the ref has given a bad decision.
