Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [23rd - 25th August 2014]

Was never expecting us to win the league this season. City and Chelsea are streets ahead. From what I've seen we're better than Arsenal, United and Everton, and I expect Spurs to fade. I'd take top four, and expect us to get it.
 
Predictable result, came too soon. Each goal had a massive individual mistake, Moreno, Hendo and Mignolet far too slow to position himself.

Too many chances got top waste up front, especially against City.

I see some people clawed themselves off their sisters which they couldn't manage at the weekend
 
Clinical performance from City, 3 chances and took all 3 of them. First 30 mins or so we played well but needed to do more to make that dominance count. Not too dissimilar to last seasons game away to City.

Poor mistake from Moreno for the first goal and possibly caught out of position for the 2nd too. Most disappointing performance for me was Henderson though. It's in these games where he needs to step-up and start making telling contributions. Twice we worked him in behind City's defense and twice rather than play the killer ball he took the safe option by taking a touch and the chance was gone. He should have come off rather than Henderson at 2-0.

Markovic looked good when he came on but as a whole we need to step up in the biggest away games.
 
They looked like conceding if Liverpool bothered to attempt finishing a chance several times first half, as Baz pointed out Hendo was in positions a city player would set up a tap in and he was weak defensively

Picking out Henderson as needing to step up in these games and most disappointing... when Coutinho was again useless against a tougher side?

Neville, augmented by Carragher, have actually revolutionised UK punditry.
 
Absolute nightmare for Liverpool. We got beat by a far superior team. I said it after last game that this fixture came too early for us. I know it shouldn't matter but you could tell by the slower pace and jaded body language from last game.

Glen Johnson. How he gets away with that type of performance is beyond me. The end epitomised him, Skrtel got clobbered by Toure and carried on. Moreno looked like he broke a ligament and carried on. Johnson? He gave the ball away and then took him self off. I'd throw him out of the club.

It looked like he pulled his hamstring, you can't run that off :/

And are you aware that he was playing for several weeks at the end of last season with 2 injuries?

Oh give over, I've berated johnson with the best of them but you don't play on with a hamstring injury(a proper one) it's pointless and very painful.

Skrtel got clattered but pain can be temporary, have someone punch you in the face, you'll be upset for 30 seconds then the pain will go away.

If Moreno's ligaments had gone he wouldn't have played on. He turned his ankle, it can hurt badly for a few minutes and be pretty much fine. Though he might find the swelling will increase pain and be a problem for the next game.

Johnson didn't show a lack of heart or fight by going off, and implying other players had serious injuries and played on just to try and suggest Johnson should have done the same is stupid.
 
Excluding Johnson injury he was poor before it and poor v Southampton, I don't think Rodgers wanted too many new faces in team early on though which is why o think he was picked over manquilo
