The thing that gets me is, O'neill hasn't improve the team at all, so apparently offers to leave, Hughes had a team that for me was improving, but not fast enough and key, wasn't getting results or winning so was fired. RDM had a team that wasn't improving, so was fired. Wenger hasn't improved the team one bit in 8 years..... and still has his job.
Fergie, the team has gone backwards some seasons and gone forwards others, both winning titles should quite rightly buy you a bit more time than if you haven't won anything. But even when the team has gotten worse, its still often been the best team and has still won things. What has Wenger done, how can a manager make a team worse(even if in small increments) for 8 years and keep his job.
I've said for weeks, we've been putting in poor performances, but who is missing, basically no one, where can we improve, basically no where, so why do people think we'll just magically start doing better.
I think the past 3-4 years our deteriation has been somewhat masked by for me Chelsea, Utd, Liverpool all doing worse, and even those pushing on for a potential 4th/6th, like Villa and Everton were up till 3-4 years ago, they've also done worse. So while we've gotten worse, so had most of the teams that would really try and take that 4th from us. The year when 3 or 4 of those teams below us all improve a lot, while we still decline, has been coming for ages.
Watching West brom, aside from squad depth, they are a team that has improved every year for 3-4 years, even under different managers and without crazy spending. They ARE playing better than we are, with what you might suggest are worse players, the sum of the parts is doing better than the sum of our parts, the managers have put together a defence that works together well, an offence that works together and a midfield that works together.
Wenger has failed to do that, Giroud and Pololski both seemingly played in 4-4-2's last year, so why buy players for different roles, why not buy a winger and a guy who likes to play as a lone striker?
ffs, if we'd simply not bought Gervinho, and Santos, Giroud and Podolski, we could have just bought Falcao
But here lies our problem, how is more money or being financially competitive with other teams due to FFP going to help... if they buy the right players, and we buy the wrong ones, if managers with far less money can take worse players and organise a better team? Wrong players, with the inability to organise them, money won't fix that, firing Wenger will... getting the wrong manager in wouldn't either.
I have no idea if Guardiola is all about the money, or location, or a specific team, I'm not sure he's any good, not every manager inherits a team that good, and the ability to build a team from scratch, organise a defence, an offence, replace half a squad and fix the mentality of a team, well he's not showed(nor had to) any of those abilities.
Again though as I've said before, I'd prefer to try and fix things with a new manager than maintain the steady decline. Talk Guardiola into signing and Wenger stepping down, if he can't rebuild a team, move on. Sticking with whats not working is just head in the sand stuff.
