Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [24 - 28th November 2012]

Note to jonneymendoza in particular, I just got back from the game.

Regardless of what DM says, two things changed the game today- Rooney moving to left wing and Anderson coming on. We were crying out all game for some drive in midfield and Anderson gave that to us. Young was utterly crap today, Rooney did more in five minutes on the left wing than he did all game as well as the two corners for the goals.

Fletcher and Scholes were both dire too, think we can have one in the team at any one time but not both.

And Welbeck. :o In his defence, he's never looked anything but **** on the wing but still, this was QPR and he barely looked like a footballer today.

Gervinho came on left wing, put it out twice with poor touches, got moved to main striker, and proceeded to constantly run out to both wings leaving no one in the middle most of the time.

While Giroud was still on I can't remember who had it on the right but they were trying to cross it in, Giroud was in the middle, someone was 5 yards outside the box and standing still, and Gervinho was standing far far out on the left wing. He's just stupid, he needed to be running in far post, as did a central midfielder, to give people a moving target and the defence having to react to three players.

Because no one was in there, the ball slowly made its way across midfield, to left wing, to Gervinho, who gave it away when he tried to beat his man.

We were rubbish, and we were outplayed by a not very good team, we created nothing, the movement was terrible throughout, Santi was meh, Ramsey still can't hit the target, Chamberlain still really produced very very little. Gibbs did nothing useful, both CB's look dodgy.

Tactics/set piece's/substitutions all terrible again, Chamberlain or Ramsey needed to go off, instead it was Podolski, not having a good game but potentially could if the midfield improved, instead he swapped a real goal threat, for maybe our worst player. Then he took a striker off for a defensive midfielder(kinda).... he made a change to essentially play out a draw with a side fighting in the relegation spots...

anyone who thinks money, lack of it, is the problem, is mental. 30mil more a year(if the team gets it) will go on either a 30mil version of Gervinho, or 3 different 10million Gervinho quality players, because he can't spot a good player any more.

The thing that gets me is, O'neill hasn't improve the team at all, so apparently offers to leave, Hughes had a team that for me was improving, but not fast enough and key, wasn't getting results or winning so was fired. RDM had a team that wasn't improving, so was fired. Wenger hasn't improved the team one bit in 8 years..... and still has his job.

Fergie, the team has gone backwards some seasons and gone forwards others, both winning titles should quite rightly buy you a bit more time than if you haven't won anything. But even when the team has gotten worse, its still often been the best team and has still won things. What has Wenger done, how can a manager make a team worse(even if in small increments) for 8 years and keep his job.

I've said for weeks, we've been putting in poor performances, but who is missing, basically no one, where can we improve, basically no where, so why do people think we'll just magically start doing better.

I think the past 3-4 years our deteriation has been somewhat masked by for me Chelsea, Utd, Liverpool all doing worse, and even those pushing on for a potential 4th/6th, like Villa and Everton were up till 3-4 years ago, they've also done worse. So while we've gotten worse, so had most of the teams that would really try and take that 4th from us. The year when 3 or 4 of those teams below us all improve a lot, while we still decline, has been coming for ages.

Watching West brom, aside from squad depth, they are a team that has improved every year for 3-4 years, even under different managers and without crazy spending. They ARE playing better than we are, with what you might suggest are worse players, the sum of the parts is doing better than the sum of our parts, the managers have put together a defence that works together well, an offence that works together and a midfield that works together.

Wenger has failed to do that, Giroud and Pololski both seemingly played in 4-4-2's last year, so why buy players for different roles, why not buy a winger and a guy who likes to play as a lone striker?

ffs, if we'd simply not bought Gervinho, and Santos, Giroud and Podolski, we could have just bought Falcao ;)

But here lies our problem, how is more money or being financially competitive with other teams due to FFP going to help... if they buy the right players, and we buy the wrong ones, if managers with far less money can take worse players and organise a better team? Wrong players, with the inability to organise them, money won't fix that, firing Wenger will... getting the wrong manager in wouldn't either.

I have no idea if Guardiola is all about the money, or location, or a specific team, I'm not sure he's any good, not every manager inherits a team that good, and the ability to build a team from scratch, organise a defence, an offence, replace half a squad and fix the mentality of a team, well he's not showed(nor had to) any of those abilities.

Again though as I've said before, I'd prefer to try and fix things with a new manager than maintain the steady decline. Talk Guardiola into signing and Wenger stepping down, if he can't rebuild a team, move on. Sticking with whats not working is just head in the sand stuff.

This is a gem even by your standards DM. :o

Try actually watching them rather than listening to pundits. Utd were terrible for most of today, is that the best the team can be? QPR were better today than they were against Southampton, and much closer to the games before that. Did you watch the QPR vs Arsenal game, but for a mad Mbia kick out, they were holding their own. They WERE improving, one terrible performance against Southampton doesn't change that.

Results weren't improving, didn't say they were, performances were, they were looking more and more like a team, stupidly enough they have put in better performances against Arsenal/Utd than against those around them. Unlike other teams around them they also managed to do well holding posession, just not doing enough with it.
