Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [24 - 28th November 2012]

Not really no.

If your going on about the olympic thing he certainly did have a bad back, why hurry back and potentially ruin it further? Football fans are so annoying thinking everything they read in the press is gospel.

Poor Gareth Bale, we've all got him wrong, he never dives, he certainly was injured against mean old Charlie Adam (playing for Liverpool), and he most certainly was injured around the time of the olympics.

Got him wrong? sure he goes over easy, he has stated he would rather go over than risk a massive injury. If I ran as fast as him and someoen sythed me over I wouldnt be happy and I bet it hurts! fair play to him for coming out and saying that, he could quite easily just blame other players. he is not in the same league as salmon flop Suarez, swan dive Gerrard or Ashley young.

At least there is contact with Suarez, it may be minimal, but there is contact (the stoke game doesn't count :D). Unlike Tom Daley, I mean Gareth Bale. (Gerrard is never far enough forward these days to dive :p)

It is quite amazing how bad the big clubs are this season, Wigan and West Ham both outplayed United and City last night for parts of the game, Arsenal should have lost and Chelsea were abysmal.

That the game that Bale played another 30 odd minutes before being taken off at half time?

Edit - yes it is!

I remember that injury in the pre season game. Thats the one where he started Spurs next game right ?

Must have been a bad one.

Baz said he couldn't recall Bale being injured by a Liverpool player. That is the only thing I can remember, Adam injured Bale while in pre season and playing for Liverpool.

Adam and Bale clearly don't get a long, I think it's more Adam than Bale. Adam (whenever I have seen them play against each other) has always gone in very hard on Bale, moreso then other players. I don't know what it is between the two players.

Shouldn't it be exciting how close football has become this year instead of just having one or two teams running away with it....

I think last season was quite good, I think that was mainly due to Manchester United and Manchester City taking it to the last game to decide the title.

I don't think the rest of the Premier League has been up to much in terms of over all quality. It's good that clubs are starting to play better 'football' though.

It's not helped that a lot of the 'Sky four' have had drops in form recently, some teams have started very well but it has seemed to have a bit of a drop recently. Might pick up again soon or after Christmas.

Bale was playing days later so Adam didnt "injure" Bale at all.

Doesnt Bale hold the most amount of yellow cards for diving last season ? Looks like he might beat that record this season !!

You can be injured and still play the next match, no?

It's irrelevant the scale of the injury, he was injured as a result of the foul, no?

I wouldn't know on the second point and I can't be bothered to check.

Link.

Pre season game, Spurs v Liverpool.

Bale was also injured by Adam in a game against Blackpool, Adam has (while at Liverpool) made very rash tackles towards him. Adam and Bale clearly don't get on very well.

You really think I didn't know what incident he was talking about? As others have said, Bale managed to play on for 20-30 minutes and then start again a few days later. Both in meaningless friendlies - you'd have thought if he was injured they wouldn't have taken any chances, especially after he was only just coming back from the injury that kept him out of the Olympics.

Stop and think that maybe the other teams have catch up with the top teams

I dont agree with that, United in particular have played like they have never met before.
Its not a case of good work by other teams, there has simply been school boy defending, lazy play, past it players, idiotic team selections.

Chelsea are terrible, Liverpool are all over the place, Arsenal are a shadow of the side they were.....

There will be a big shake up in managers next season and the season after, United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool (like it or not) will all have new managers I reckon and we might start seeing some fresh ideas in the league, because its pretty poor at the moment.

Do you think Wenger's time at arsenal has come to a close?

Seriously what do you think?? given DM's past history on posts about Wenger??:p

No. He'll see out his contract which i think is 2014. If we're carrying from now till then as we are now, he'll move upstairs. No way will he get sacked.

This pretty much, i think he will finish with his current contract and then move upstairs behind a desk ie maybe director of football or something. Arsenal know how important he is to the club as a whole so never in a million yrs will Arsenal sack him...even if we dont get CL footie next season or we end up being relegated:p.

Wenger as Director of Football will likely impact negatively on Arsenal for years, as an ambassdor and talking stupid people into signing for the club when there are better alternatives... maybe, he used to be able to do it, but then again he failed to do that with Mata, and Ronaldo, and multiple other players, but did manage to persuade the likes of Chamakh to join Arsenal on a huge wage that seemingly on one else was offering.

Ultimately if he stays involved in the club on any serious level, I think he'll be helping coach kids, helping pick youngsters for the youth squad, poo poo'ing deals, ie new manager wants to cut half the team buy 2-3 stars on 150k a week and everyone else on significantly less, I can see Wenger sticking his oar in with the board and saying we can't do that, and putting in his idea's for who we should buy and the like.

Wenger though, has lost all ability to spot a player now, he has no objectivity, and coaching, I can't remember the last player who joined Arsenal and improved rather than regressed, some significantly. A player like Cesc or Wilshire are just those once in every while players who get football, they'd become as good playing at Barca, or Grimsby, Cesc joined as an incredibly talented player he didn't improve drastically in 3 months then was suddenly exceptional.

So frankly, I don't want him to have anything to do with shaping who we go after, youth teams, what players we keep or how we organise the team, because the entire reason we aren't competitive is down to those factors.

Wenger of pre unbeaten run ending era, I'd have as a director of football in a heart beat, he could spot a good player and wouldn't tolerate someone as crap as Denilson, pushed for improvement in the squad every year and pushed for a better kind of football.

I never said it wasn't exciting, but City and United are already turning it into a 2 horse race.

Given how English teams have performed in Europe this year I think it's safe to say standards have dropped rather than others have improved.
