Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [24th - 29th November 2017]

Moyes doesn't have tactics, he needs to give up lol
I know it's fun to laugh at Moyes but it's really difficult to see what anybody can do at West Ham right now (and Sunderland was an impossible job for anybody) - there's no legs or energy in that West Ham squad. Their 2 main strikers, Carroll & Hernandez, can't run to save their lives, Mark Noble in midfield and the likes of Lanzini & Arnautovic who pick and choose if they're going to show up and do anything.

West Ham have got some talented players who, when things are going well and with workers around them, can be very useful but there's no balance to their squad. They need Antonio back and desperately need to sign a midfielder & defender who can run in January or they've very likely to go down.

"I was telling Nathan Redmond how good he is at the end. Southampton have some super talented players, Redmond is so good one against one."
No one will think you really believe that Pep...
I do actually. It wouldn't be the first time Pep's been overly animated when talking with players and Redmond doesn't react as if there was some sort of argument.

I meant no one would believe Pep actually thinks Redmond is any good, he's a waste of squad space

I was saying the same when Savage and co were talking about why didn't play Everton play Rooney against Southampton, quite simply Southampton would have run rings around him. Savage even summed it up in saying Rooney dictated the pace of the game tonight, not really it was just a slow paced game because they are two slow paced teams and Everton's better quality of players were the difference. Hart should never play for England again but to be honest he's had worse games and still gets picked.

Ive also seen Rooneys goal, good hit but its an open goal lol. He shouldnt miss.

I’d bet 50% of the premiership couldn’t score from there with no one on the pitch. But it’s Rooney so people have to be negative. He’s shot but very few players would have scored that. It’s so easy I wonder why more don’t do it.

The keeper isn't out of position that much 99.9999999% of every other footballers career meaning chances to do that are few and far between. There was also no defenders anywhere near. Most people who shoot for a long range goal the keeper is maybe edge of the box, and they try to lob the keeper so go high and have a very narrow margin. When the keeper is miles out and completely stranded you can do what Rooney did and aim for way before the goal and let it bounce in safely, it becomes 100x easier than trying to hit just under the bar.

99.999% of the time when a keeper comes out that far to win the ball the keeper leathers it into row Z so there is no chance to ping it at such a completely unguarded goal.

No one is being negative, not calling it the best goal ever scored in the league isn't negative, it's being truthful. He scored it, you're right many would miss, so would Rooney. If every player shot 5 times from there they might all, including Rooney, only score 2 out of 5 attempts. That still doesn't make that one of the best goals in league history or likely goal of the year. It was a long range pass into the net with absolutely no defence that bounced 5 yards before the line. If there was anyone in the box when he shot it would likely have been blocked, if a keeper was on the edge of the box it would have been very easily saved.

Im one of the few on here who actually stood up for Rooney when here was at United so you know.

Its an open goal, no goalkeeper and no defence...the idea that its goal of the season is just nuts imo. Salahs first was more impressive for us tonight.

There's been far better half way line hits like that where the player has made a judgement on the keeper being able to make it back from the 18yrd line.

His one in 2014 against them was better as I believe he hit it on the volley and the keeper was much closer to goal. I still agree with the above though that most players would likely still miss an open net, you look at the crossbar challenge videos soccer am used to do years ago and many couldn't even hit it in the confines of the goal width.

Rooney's goal was outstanding, to take it first time at that pace, with that technique is some strike.

Not sure how Mignolet got away with that, about as blatant a red card as you're going to see. He even admitted he took him out in the interview after, which was pretty amusing. I'd love to hear the ref's justification as to why it's only a yellow. Another crap decision from the officials, of which there have been many so far this season.

Saw Young's free kick for the first time on MOTD last night as well, another cracking strike. Been some good goals this last couple of days.

Oh, and West Ham are diabolical.
