Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [24th May 2015]

I feel sorry for him tbh. I said last year I feared he would be done for after over achieving last season. He got closer to a title in recent history than wenger with less resources. He was written off this year then put a good run of form together.

I really don't think you will gain much from sacking him and trying to find someone to come in considering how much you can spend in comparison to the competition. Are you really that ungrateful for what he managed to get last season?

I even looked back and found posts when Liverpool fans on here where mocking "idiots" on 606 saying he should be sacked.

There's no 2 ways about it, he's looked at sea this season. I said on here before that Suarez forced him to change as a manager. He joined Liverpool as this death by possession coach and Suarez's go for the kill at every opportunity style didn't suit that. Without having his hand forced he's not known what to do this season though.

I had hoped that Rodgers would continue the same relentless attacking this season but he bottled it. Whatever he tried to create didn't work and we were neither the all out attacking side of last season nor the death by possession side Rodgers initially wanted us to be.

He fell upon this 3-4-3 formation and we had a great run but all it done was show his limitations tactically. You can't play 1 system and 1 style of football every week and expect to win but that's what Rodgers does - he waits until we've been beaten before trying to change. Teams were slowly starting to figure out how to play against us and even before the Utd game our performances were getting worse and worse, and it was only a matter of time before we lost. There was no tinkering with the system though to counter certain things.

And then from the Utd game his bottle went again. Admittedly our players have played like they're on holiday since that game but it's not been helped by Rodgers. There's been no sign of anything being worked on with next season in mind. Nothing to build on. We've had peculiar system after peculiar system with players playing out of position or players playing when they won't be around next season (Johnson more so than Gerrard). He's not shown anything to give supporters (or owners) any hope that he can put things right next season. At least had he stuck with the 3-4-3 and tried tinkering it here or there you could see something was being worked on but there was nothing.

Rodgers is a very good coach and he might go on to become an excellent manager but he's still learning his trade. Even last season when we were blitzing sides you could see (and I mentioned) his limitations. Ultimately I think it's going to be his unwillingness to properly work within the structure the owners want rather than his tactical failings that might cost him his job.

One of his biggest failings has been to not address the defensive issues concerning his systems.

I guess if we can get someone like Klopp, then maybe its time to get rid, if not Klopp then who is out there that can handle the job??

If he goes only managers I'd like is klopp and ancelotti but I doubt we would get either

liverpool could spiral down imo. gerrard couldn't compete anymore but he was a leader, a voice. he was liverpool. who can take over that responsibility now?

sterling is going. sturridge is a crock. balotellli didn't work out. coutinho is ok but who else stands out?

huge huge investment needed (again) but who can you attract. the 'we're liverpool, we're still a big club' doesn't wash. sterling is a prime example.

spurs need to ship out a lot of players. i think lloris will stay. walker, chiriches, davies, stambouli, paulinho, capoue, townsend, soldado, dembele, adebayor all need to be sold imo and i'd rather we retained lennon.

a cup final and 5th covers a lot of cracks. some games we were utterly appauling but yesterday we looked very convincing in the first half but i can't see us breaking top 4.

yedlin, alli and carroll should get some time next season imo as i like us to push youngsters through as opposed to blow more money. though a deep lying and experienced play maker is a must as is another striker.

He's been a big part of the recent problems imo, its a good thing he is finally going.

He hasnt worked at all this season, he just doesnt perform in a midfield and we often have to have 1 or 2 players covering for his obvious problems, last season was a 'success' despite him.

New manager, new slate & get away from all the trappings of recent failings is needed.

Maybe he will again go to a club that loves him or one who will be on his back:)

Aye like all the really great fans we have who showed him love after battling our cancerous owners. Really hope Rafa is never back as a large number of ***** don't deserve him and he will face the same abuse from the same retards who wanted him gone before.

Can't wait for our new three year project to keep this 5-7th place finish truely on track.

is right, the man should be worshiped by everyone associated at our club, fans, players and upper management but instead you get ***** who belittle him at every opportunity.

There would be no better choice than Rafa to get us competing in the league, cups and in Europe on the apparent budget we have.

He came close to winning us the league once in 5 seasons as opposed to 3 with Rodgers and the lack of budget and relationship with the owners would be his downfall again just as it has been at every other club he's managed. Thanks for the memories but lets keep it that way.

and in 3 seasons Rodgers has challenged for top 4 once, with zero other distractions despite spending unprecedented amounts on players coupled with pathetic performances in cups and europe.

Rafa has fell out with the 2 cancers (and helped highlight our club going down the ****ter into administration)and the chelsea lot and at Inter where every promise made to him was not delivered. Both the Valencia and Napoli owners pretty much begged him to stay. He would excel under FSG

He left Valencia because he wanted more control as well as the money to compete with Barcelona and Madrid which was an absolutely ridiculous request to make. He's also fallen out with the Napoli owner on multiple occasions and it's not been until the last month that he's been asked to stay after repeatedly questioning the direction the club want to go.

Rafa wants to compete with the best and he hasn't got a hope in hell of doing it at Liverpool and it would be a disaster for both parties if he came back.

Who do you propose then gets us competing? As it stands we are competing where we should be, we should've finished above manu and spurs but thats simply down to them also being complete ****ing garbage, although not to the extent of us, but again seems like we are right where we should be albeit with some horrendous mistakes from top to bottom at the club.

Exactly. We don't have oil barons in charge of us and that's where Rafa will come unstuck. We had the right idea last summer and the summer before and have tried to get the big names but we've either baulked at the transfer fees or the amount being asked for in wages. Rafa will rage quit if that happens to him.

No idea who we should go for but the 3 year plan has failed miserably.
