Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [24th May 2015]

I'd take what Rafa did without mega money last time over anything we've done since though.

I mean I still don't want him back but there aren't many better options, here's hoping someone mega rich buys us and the money is not from a country with slaves or stolen from the public, only way we'll ever compete consistently, until then enjoy game by game and the odd season where we look like doing something.

There's a few managers available but there could also a few massive clubs looking for managers.

De Boer?
Klopp
Ancelotti
Rafa

Man City?
Real
Dortmund
AC Milan

Really? Surely the semi final of the Carling Cup is better than a Champions League win?

I just want a setup at the club that can keep their gobs shut, I mean how many of our transfer targets have been leaked, lets not even get started on contract **** ups. FSG have given us money, the ground expansion will be good for the club, we have been severely let down by the whole management setup.

I dont want rafa back, our football was poor towards the end of his reign, and he hasnt improved that at the various other clubs he has since managed.

Yeah, the baseball approach to running the club and the way FSG deal with targets hasn't really worked wonders but considering the position we were in before they arrived they should be given the keys to the city.

i know it's not a massive thing but i still can't believe we got 5th. that's an extra £1.5m over 6th (adebayor's wages covered over the summer) but most importantly i just can't get my head around liverpool's performance yesterday after just watching motd.

no striker? can. wtf? stoke have improved massively. they convincingly beat us a few weeks ago but liverpool looked like they had no desire to get 5th and spurs did. mason, vert and bentaleb played with energy levels of a team 3 games into a season.

6th is a far worse position than 5th and liverpool could now potentially play more games than spurs did this season. that's an utter disaster for rodgers and if he plans to get dumped out of the competition as soon as he can then that's stupid too as surely the fans want to watch their team as much as they can?

So why wouldn't you want him then being one of the best options we have?

Also as much as I love Carlo I doubt we are even within a sniff of getting him, has he done much without top resources either?

Rodgers has failed miserably with the tools at his disposal this year. He's not been able to adapt when his tactics go wrong, he's constantly played players out of position and he's completely fallen to pieces over the last two months which suggests he lacks the motivational skills for a fight.

Out of interest what do liverpool fans expect? Without money you'll never compete, you'll be lucky to push top 4, what will getting rid of Rodgers bring?

Genuinely interested.

Probably to be finishing significantly ahead of a team like Southampton that they poached players from, spent more than and had a more established squad than.

As much as it's been enjoyable and I feel Southampton played well and deserve a good placing, by rights we shouldn't be near teams like Liverpool or Tottenham given the levels of net spending and the relative inexperience of our squad. Whilst we have achieved well, the teams immediately above us have underperformed really.

They should expect to be finishing 10 points in front, not 2.

As a lifelong Liverpool fan, I'm happy to reply.

First off, let me state, I actually dont mind Rodgers. If he were to stay it wouldnt be the end of the world for me. He is raw and inexperienced and prone to making some peculiar gaffes at time, but I do believe that there is potential in him to go on and become a very good manager.

However, I do also believe that Rodgers has become "tainted" by this season, for one reason or another there is definitely a perception surrounding him that something is not gelling for him currently at Liverpool. Some say its his lack of defensive perspective, others say that he has "lost" the backing of the bootroom etc. There is also a belief that Rodgers himself does not have quite the pull , when it comes to foreign players wanting to sign for him, as other managers have got.

We dont have the Champions League to offer potential signings this summer and that adds difficulty to signing players (at a time when it is absolutely crucial that we do), however I do think that players will be more likely to join us if they thought they were signing to play under Klopp or Ancelotti (or someone of that continental standing) rather than Rodgers who they may perceive as having failed (or be in the process of failing) at Liverpool.

Now Ancelotti appears to have ruled himself out of taking on another job this coming year, but Klopp is available. FSG could wait, hold on to Rodgers and say lets give him another year...but if its a mess next season they could end up with no obvious manager being available. If they moved for Klopp now, they could strike while the iron is hot so to speak.

At this point in time, whilst it wouldnt be the end of things for me if Rodgers was to stay, I would equally hate to think that the opportunity to appoint someone with proven pedigree and a name thats desired by players might pass us by.

Good reply Tomb but would you even get a "top" continental manager as they won't have the money or the pull to get the "top" players.

I just can't see liverpool really troubling top 4, I think last year was the perfect Storm where everything went right for liverpool where alternatively everything went wrong for other clubs.

Without money are you best not accepting the inevitable that you won't be a top 4 club anymore? Aim cups and just doing the best you can?

Again I'm not taking digs, just wanting to know your perspective.

Is Rodgers not good in that he'll bring youth through and try and keep the spirit at the club or worst case get you good youth players to sell for 30 odd mill every few years?

We have enough money to compete for a top 4 spots. Had we not had a disaster of a season it was there for the taking again this season.

As for attracting 'top' managers. LvG for example was spoke to re becoming director of football the summer Rodgers was appointed and he, reportedly, wanted the managers job. We're not going to get Guardiola in the situation we're in now but we're still an attractive proposition for most managers.

We've still got a very solid foundation of a squad. We need to get Sturridge fit and provide him with some quality cover we should be able to compete again next season. You have to remember that going into the Utd game, a win would have taken us above them. It's only since then that we've seemed to give up.

lol did u watch the season? liverpool had top in their grasp without a half decent striker trouble is they are very fragile under rodgers

We never had top 4 in our grasp though  we had a spell (like all teams do) where we went on an unbeaten run, sacrificing any sort of attacking verve for a semblence of defensive solidity (and even in that run Mignolet would envariably pull off a couple of cracking saves to keep it a clean sheet). We've been **** all season, unfortuantely for us both Man U and Spurs werent as **** over the course of 38 games.

Goal of the season, Liverpool bias aside, it should be Coutinho :p
