Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [26 - 29th April 2013]

Awful point for both teams tbh.

Pretty much, once we weathered the early Arsenal pressure when they were flying into our players left right and centre we were pretty comfortable opening them up time and time again but the final ball was more often than not pretty woeful

Oh well points record is gone but at least we didn't lose and RVP scoring against them again was a real highlight given the stick he was getting, another goal closer to the golden boot as well

EDIT: Oh and going into Purdy mode Phil Dowd and his officials were beyond terrible

SFL is 1 nearer to the milestone but he's running out of games and probably wouldn't have got a sniff today if Ramires didn't get injured. I doubt he'll start in the PL again now so that just leaves a few cameos + 90 mins in the EL semi (perhaps final) to get that record.
Luiz was awesome in that role just in front of the back 4 again.
Hazard had another blinder, I've never seen anyone find as much space as he does when under pressure with the ball at his feet.
Mata (again) looked tired, it's been a shame that we couldn't really rest him for a few games as he's needed it & his performances have declined latterly.

On to the CL spots.
If we can beat Spuds we only need 3 points from the games v Man.U., Villa & Everton which we should be able to do.
If we don't beat Spuds **** knows what the permutations are!

As Clem mentioned, we lost out under the exact same circumstances 11 years ago against Reading. The fans were praying for something to happen to help us forget about the Reading game. The football gods obviously have a sense of humour... We can now move on from Reading because something even more unbelievable and outrageous happened today! Gotta hand it to the gods though... A 94th minute penalty miss by a Fulham player is certainly rubbing it in

Gutted for you and the rest of the Bees yesterday, it was however typical Brentford :(
But you're due a bit of luck in the playoffs so hopefully this'll be your year :)

Courtesy of Sagna giving you a penalty:p. Still think Arsenal could have gotten 3 points had Sagna not been a muppet and brought down RVP in the box.

Well, if we're going down that road your goal was clearly offside and Sagna should have been sent off. :p

Premier League TOTY: De Gea; Zabaleta, Vertonghon, Ferdinand, Baines; Mata, Carrick, Hazard, Bale; Van Persie, Suarez.

who was the guy saying Vertonghen was crap on here nuff said

Is there any point even having this discussion?

I say I don't rate Vertonghen.
cm1179 pops up with his usual dross "yer but he scored a goal when we beat United lolz"
Tom points out that he got skinned over and over in that game by Nani, who has been **** all season bar 40 minutes of the League Cup game against Chelsea.
Half the Spurs fans say we can't criticise him for the United game anyway because he was out of position (at least some of you are perceptive enough to notice he was crap in the game, cm take note)
Then we can't criticise him because it's everyone else's fault that Spurs are poor at the back.

So basically the conclusion is we can't say anything about Vertonghen unless it's positive. Forgive me if I'm not willing to get involved in that, he is a good player but far from the finished article. He's basically David Luiz but not a **** so people seem to warm to him.

And this is for cm1179:

Teams of the year, player of the year, its all about picking a couple popular players from certain teams, nothing to do with reality, never has done. Sagna has been picked as right back in team of the year outside of the first season when he genuinely was good, but in other seasons when he's been exactly as useless as he is now.

Its almost exactly the team you'd expect, attacking players from Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool, City, Spurs, throw a bone to a "lower" team in Everton, and laugh at Arsenal because individually there has been no one really stand out enough. IF Wilshire hadn't missed so much of the season he'd probably be in there.

Not saying Vert isn't good, but a TOTY means precisely nothing in terms of how good the players are... you can however get a rough picture of who is in the top 4 and who are the highest supported teams outside the top four ;)

You spoken to PG about what happened? Wonder what his/backroom staff's reaction was after the game! :(

average??? LOL... One of the best cb in the prem and going forward when he can also score a few goals
Guess you dont watch spurs he has been superb for us at cb
you should look at the stats also top percentage for tackling also

Was out all day but recorded the game and was basically offline so i did not see the results. i came home a few hours ago and watched the whole match.

Great start from the gunners. Should have been 2-3 goals up in the first 30mins.

What was Sagna doing? Get rid of him. He cost us the game big time. Single handed lost us 2 extra points. he is ****. ****ing useless.

this is why we will never win trophies because we always have some player in our team who will make a silly stupid mistake.

That is all it takes to win or lose. a single mistake. If Arsenal are serious about CL football and serious about winning trophies, these mistakes should not appear in a big game like this.

You dont want to say at the end of any game "damm if only we did not make that silly schoolboy error mistake we could have won" but instead admit defeat when you simply got outplayed by the opposition.

Sagna messed up BIG TIME. he such a waste. i personally would have takem him off at half time to send a message to the players that stupid mistakes like that is NOT ON in this club.

Sick and tired of these stupid players costing us game after game every bloody year. This is not no small micky mouse club so why cant Wenger and the staff be more vicious? Why do they appear to accept players making silly mistakes? Why cant Wenger and co start buying ready made players and pay them the salary at the current market rate(150k).

This team is 4 players short of contending for the title.

We need 4 quality players, one of them HAS to be a marquee Signing. Someone like falcoa, a ready made player that is world class.

All over twitter.

tbh you really shouldn't be allowed to win both.

I haven't seen any decent journalists confirm it though, something being "all over Twitter" doesn't make it true.

The early preview of the back of the Daily Mail would imply they know he's won it though, The Sun called it this morning or last night as well.

Not official... yet.
