Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [26th - 30th January 2019]

I don't think the referee has the right to do that. He has colleagues who can see the ball if he doesn't see it.
Also, Kevin saw the whistle in front of his face - but Sergio Aguero didn't see. Aguero asked for the ball in the right moment and Kevin delivered.
Any normal referee in the world would have allowed the play to continue.

What the hell, at least he could have saved the yellow card, if nothing else

No, they wouldn't. Once the referee indicates to wait for the whistle, they're not going to go "yea let's play on, why not". You could also argue the Liverpool players were aware they had to wait for the whistle, he had plenty of time to take the free kick before the ref pointed at his whistle.

Yes, the ref does have the right to do that. And why on earth does Aguero need to have seen the ref instruct KdB to wait for the whistle? He's not taking the free-kick.

I have no idea if a yellow is the correct punishment, by the letter of the law, for taking the free-kick without waiting but when the ref has clearly told you to wait for the whistle but you ignore him you can't have too many complaints. Anyway, I think the ref made up for the yellow by not giving him a 2nd yellow later on.

Now now fella, it's all going to be alright, I'm sure Sheikh Mansour will fiddle FFP again if City doesn't win it this year.

Interesting stat on BT Sports TV Guide for the game tonight, Liverpool haven't lost a home midweek PL fixture since May 2012.

No other referee would do this and I have never seen ever before this.
This wasn't a free kick in front of the penalty area with the opportunity for direct attack. It was an indirect free kick.

This is ridiculous because it killed the speed in the game. Exactly what all spectators, neutral and not, would like to see. More goals.

Seriously? It literally happens every week, except normally the player follows the referee's instructions...

It'll be interesting to see how we line-up tonight. With no Trent, Gomez and Milner suspended the obvious way to go would be Fabinho RB with Wijnaldum slotting back in midfield but Klopp did hint at the possibility of playing with wingbacks so it could be Camacho and then a back 3.

Christ almighty, you got beat fair and square, your first goal shouldn’t have stood after the foul on the keeper and you should have been down to ten men, the ref clearly said to wait for the whistle which he didn’t do. TBH your fans got what they deserved, they were the worst and quietest away fans I have seen at SJP for years, Cardiff 2 weeks ago only brought 800-1000 fans and made far more noise than your lot.

Looks like it's Henderson unless it's a back three with Gini.

All out attack.

Just hoping the weather can hold off for the next 2 hours. I get the strangest feeling this match is going to be abandoned part way through due to conditions.

Starting 1-0 down due to Vardy :(

State of the pitch is grim, can see the hoofed balls stopping dead when pumped up

Hopefully we do alright, weird team
