Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [26th - 30th October 2018]

People pay billions for the TV rights, players get millions in salaries and they still find a way to keep that disgusting condition of the grass and the pitch. Crime investigation on the FA needed.

What are you on about? Tottenham said they would have their stadium finished by now, if it's anybody's fault it's Spurs for not getting their stadium ready in time.

Carra's being ridiculous. Spurs do not have the money to push on like he's asking. The only way Spurs could do what he's suggesting was to risk putting themselves in a Leeds situation.

Err, is this the only usable stadium in London? :D

Granted there are other stadiums, presumably Spurs and City didn't think it necessary to seek out an alternative.

Yeah I'm not sure what he's on about either. Neville was mentioning £600m stadium costs but Spurs new stadium was initially estimated at £850m and is now getting closer to £1b. Few teams would be able to spend that sort of money on a new stadium and also go out and be active in the transfer market. Supposedly Spurs have had to take out bank loans in excess of £400m to cover the stadium costs, which have to be serviced over the next five years. They've probably pushed their budget to the limit with the new contracts they've given to several of their star players, so spending big in the transfer market isn't possible.

Almost every penny Spurs have generated over the last few years has gone into the stadium. They initially planned to borrow just £400m but with the costs spiralling and no naming rights deal in place they've had to borrow even more - they confirmed the other day that their credit facility is now close to £650m.

There more at risk of falling down the league thought if they don't improve sqaud, the stadium whilst good for them, may also weaken there league position with all they money going one way

Arsenal - Liverpool next week looks a huge match. It's a match that we've probably got to win to keep up with City and equally Arsenal probably need a result too - as yet they've only won games they've been huge favourites in.

Can't see anything other than a convincing win for your lot. We're still in disarray every time anyone puts us under pressure, got away with it versus Leicester in the first 30 minutes and Palace could have had a few more goals if they could finish. If we're still playing Xhaka at full back then we'll be in massive trouble!

White Hart Lane was quite small for them - a new stadium is always good to have if the investment costs are kept relatively low. £850 million is a lot for a stadium

Don’t worry, you’re gonna spank us 3 or 4 nil. We’re nowhere near as good as some of our fans seem to think.

I don’t think anyone is really expecting us to beat Liverpool. Liverpool need the win more than us I think, the performance is the most important thing for us. We’re woeful against other big teams, if we can at least show some kind of game plan and game management it’d be an improvement and positive sign for the future.

Reckon they’ll beat us 2-0 and miss a load of chances.

I’ll be happy with a draw or shock horror a win but a draw at the very least would make me happy.

He's off his nut. The club cannot compete with Man Utd and Liverpool for revenue generation, these are global sports brands with probably more fans abroad than in the UK.

The stadium might be about revenue generation but a lot of money has also been spent on luxury player lodging at the training ground. Part of me thinks this is all about building up material assets to add value to the owner's investment with a view to sell.
