Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [26th February - 3rd March 2016]

From watching the highlight, Arsenal could have won that game quite easily. Hit the post a few times and were unlucky on a few other occasions. If those ones that hit the post went in then no one would be saying anything and it would just be a routine victory. These things happen and you need a little luck sometimes.

At the moment we need massive amounts of luck, we aren't scoring as freely as we used to. Everything just seems so laboured ie our buildup play etc. Our counter attacks are lethargic and slow, I remember the days when we countered with such ferocity.

Our confidence looks shot to pieces at the moment, it really is disturbing how our heads drop when we concede goals.

I might watch NLD just for the lulz, to see Arsenal get the holy hell spanked out of them. By then our title dreams will be gone and it will be another race to finish in the top 4.

It's shocking just how bad we are without Cazorla, I thought Coquelin might have been our biggest miss when he got injured. But it's clear as day to see Cazorla being out has affected us badly. And that's the joke, every season we over rely on one player to pull us through our mess.

Really good performance from us last night. I honestly fancied us to beat them going into the game - we've got the fitter/younger squad and would make changes in critical positions which I didn't think City could or would. It showed too - Ageuro looked like somebody that had played 120 minutes and Milner, Can & Henderson overrun Fernando & Fernandinho in midfield. Alongside Can, who I thought put in arguably his best display for us, Lallana was excellent - his freshness showed and for once showed some end product to go with the nice touches and energy he usually gives us.

If only we played like that on Sunday.

Well let's see....

All from within the last 3 months. I worry about your memory.

I'm more worried that you have that much free time on your hands to go out of your way to discredit someone lol.

Do you not get much fresh air?? :p

You aren't exactly a free scoring team at the best of times. You don't usually blow teams away by 4-5 goals. You're averaging about 1.5 goals for and 1 goal against per game. You've only scored 7 more goals than us (United) this season and we have been dire in front of goal. You could have won that game by a few goals last night with a little luck but its not really truthful to suggest that Arsenal are in a goal drought compared to the rest of the season.

It took literally 2 minutes, I just remembered all the **** he's been giving mourinho. In the same way he's been attacking anyone the last 6 months (mainly DM) that wanted Arsene gone. Now we are back to Jonney MK1.

It doesn't take much to discredit someone who in less than 3 months has gone to belittling a Manager to then arguing with others why he should be at Arsenal. It's not like Jose has been in work since to change his mind.

It's funny how the man actually in charge, Kroenke, gets no abuse at all.

As yet, regardless, that cash IS in the Arsenal books and we've heard that it can be spent. Kroenke is allowed to take as much of that cash out as he wants.... but he hasn't. He paid himself what 3mil a year, which frankly is nothing. It's his club and he's entitled to do that. The cash is in the Arsenal account and it's Wenger who stands up and says we don't need anyone. It's also not Kroenke refusing to sell Arteta, or giving new contracts to Walcott, Rosicky, Diaby for years.

Kroenke is the owner, Wenger is in charge of buying, selling, wages, giving out new contracts... we aren't failing financially, there isn't 100mil being sucked out of the club every year by the owner. Each problem we have is solely down to Wenger. 2-3 mil a year, probably almost 3 mil a year on average for Diaby.... to have absolutely no effect on the team, Rosicky, etc. All this money adds up to the utter wasteful nature of the club. Walcott getting a new contract rather than being shown the door because he's not a good footballer. Which problems are down to Kroenke and not Wenger exactly?

Just been looking at Campbells stats:

15 Games
3 Goals
1 Assists
18 Shots

The Ox:

22 Games
1 Goals
0 Assists
23 Shots

I think what Wenger has done to Campbell is terrible especially considering he always knows he will be subbed / wont play if others aren't injured. The stats aren't amazing but they're better than everyone else apart from Ozil I think.

I really don't rate Cazorla that highly. He once went missing last season and the one before that. He just not consistent enough

If you took minutes played that would probably look much worse, but when you consider that Ox has been played when fit, has been part of the team for what, 4 years, it's a joke. Campbell has been shipped out on loan, more recently kept and barely played, had his confidence hit by being ignored then only playing when everyone was injured, being great but being dropped the second another player gets back from injury. Same with Vela, Bendtner, Eduardo in his last couple of seasons. Wenger does this all the time, regardless of how good they look in training or how well they play Wenger drops anyone in form for his favourites even if like Ox/Walcott they are completely rubbish.

Jenks was brilliant when Sagna was injured, Sagna had been dodgy as hell before injury but the second he was back it was good bye Jenks. Coquelin and Bellerin would probably have left this summer if injuries hadn't seen them get games last season.

It's utterly infuriating. Again it's a very different Wenger to the pre 2005 Wenger. Back then Wenger would bench anyone for a younger or newer guy who was playing better. He would sell a great player if he thought he could get an even better player. He lost his cutting edge and probably his distance from the players ages ago. I'll remind you, Denilson asked to leave Arsenal... Denilson, it's just sad.

There are two Wengers, pre 2005 and post, pre was epic, post is poor. I'd be absolutely fine if Wenger started making pre 2005 decisions, cut Ox/Walcott, picked the best starting team, made better subs and was ruthless in say getting rid of Giroud for a better striker... but after a decade you have to be mad to think he'll make those changes.

Right?? And none of our other players go missing? ie Özil tends to still go missing in games but not as much as last season or his first season. Then there is Sanchez who has been utterly terrible since coming back from his injury, pretty much missing in the last few games when we needed him to step up.

Cazorla must be one of the most underrated players in the league. I love watching him play, he makes things tick along. Of course he will go missing now and again, and when he does then why can't our other players step up?? Oh yes I forgot we have no backbone, spine or balls to kill games off like we used to as are too reliant on certain players.

Arsenal would be properly like, mental, to remove Wenger.

Something has to change though, surely? Although I guess this answer depends on what you want the club to achieve/success to be measured by.

Sometimes you have to go backwards to go forwards.

Remember when Welbeck was going to be the next Henry?

Lols :)

How dare you compare Welbeck to King Henry:p:D

I don't recall anyone saying he was going to be the next Henry lol.

Saying that he has scored against Utd twice now, once in the FA QF's and the other weekend. Just a shame we couldn't beat Utd last weekend, would have been epic if he had scored the winning goal line he did against Leicester lol.

Well, not quite, but he was going to be a star striker.

And that is exactly the problem, people saying it would be stupid to get rid of him. Makes me laugh when I hear that rubbish, are you of the same thinking that your other supported team Utd should hang onto LVG even though he hasn't done well this season??

Personally I think it's time we tried someone different, sure it may backfire on us but then we won't know till we break ties with Wenger and get someone in with a fresh new approach.

But don't worry the board don't have the balls to sack him off and he won't leave until his contract expires and there is every chance he may sign an extension. Heard rumours that the board want him to stay for another couple of yrs.
