Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [27th - 28th August 2011]

Wenger will never quit and the board wont sack him.

Thats seemingly true, Fergie said, its inconcievable Utd could go 6 years without winning anything and was seemingly suggesting HE would be fired if that happened, and couldn't understand how Arsenal hadn't taken action.

Jesus, there was basically one possibly way for Spurs to seem less utter crap today, and Arsenal provided it......... :(

From his press conference:

Wenger: “The players who were out today was too many. We didn’t expect to have all these players out. It is too many”

Wenger: “I am very open to signing players if we find players who can strengthen the team. We have a lot of people working on that”

Wenger: “We suffered physically in the second half. They have class and they punished us. We opened up and were punished”

Wenger: “After a game like that, it is terribly painful. It was a special game and it hurts.”

Wenger: “We are close to signing a striker at the moment but we are still looking for a midfielder and a defender”

Wenger: “We have to sort out our problems and, at the moment, not speak too much”

Wenger: “We collapsed physically more than anything else”

Slightly confusing from two native centre backs haha.
I reckon it's a Fergie tactic to confuse the opposition. :p

I was expecting us to win today, with Young/Welbeck/Rooney etc in good form and Arsenal losing Fabregas and Nasri, however I was thinking 2-0, 3-1, something like that.

Smalling plays right back REALLY well.
Yeah. When I realised he was playing RB for Utd I was a bit worried. A centre-back playing at RB when he's not really a RB. But fair play to him he's doing very well. It's amazing the potential we've got in Smalling and Jones. OK, today's game was very silly, but it could be said that we aren't really feeling the loss of Rio/Vidic/Rafael because Jones/Smalling are doing so well. I was tempted to add Evans to that list but he did give away a penalty. I think I'm to blame for that. Everytime I watch Evans play for Utd he seems to concede a penalty. :o

Chuffed with a 2-1 win over Fulham, these were the games that historically we lost and got into trouble at the end of the season. Fantastic platform for safety from the start of the season.

Back on topic, hats of to Manchester in general, if United can destroy Arsenal chrsit knows what Toon will surrender too

I'm so glad I put Young down as my FF captain.

90 mins
2 goals
3 assists
1 yellow card

lol, it only occured to me after the second freekick that Young would be getting assists for that tiny, tiny little touch that basically I could have done :p

Also my captain and in my team.

grr, during the game, I wasn't angry, I wasn't surprised, I was irked but because I was expecting it, I wasn't AS angry as in other big losses.

But its just building up afterwards, reading how everyone else can see what is wrong, but Wenger can't, his comments, I do feel like exploding now. Bah, need to find some weed, or valium, not to much though, dont' want to be too far gone as I plan Wenger's assasination ;)

Cahill won't fix a cack defense, look at how crap Kos looked last year, how HUGELY improved he looked alongside Verm, and how crap he looked alongside Djourou. One player can't fix a defense, the system is wrong, the training is wrong, the positioning/covering, everything is wrong in there.

Arshavin hasn't been cack for a while, he's been cack for two games, he was probably top 3-4 players in preseason and last year he was also good, the team is simply playing so horribly offensively he can't work with it. He's a little guy, he's not Kevin Davies, he can't battle through a team on his own, nor hold it up well, he needs fast paced attacking football to run into space and make chances, when our football is slow and no one moves, he's easily easily contained.

Also yes, our board for over a decade now has said "wenger has X amount to spend" every year and Wenger won't, again the issue is Wenger actually thinks Song is brilliant, and Djourou, and, etc, etc, etc. If you had ROnaldo, you wouldn't buy a replacement, when someone thinks Song is the best DM in the world, you don't replace him, the problem is Wenger has lost ALL ability to judge a players ability, which was by FAR his best quality in his early Arsenal years.

Pretty much, but you're COMPLETELY wrong about Wilshire, I'll say again for the seats at the back, HE PLAYED AS A DM LAST SEASON. Did Makelele look dangerous, does De Jong, does Busquets, does Mascherano.

Realise where he played and that he is disciplined and stayed back 98% of the time which is why he was so good. Song is epically rubbish at DM< because he runs off all over the place, zero discipline, rubbish DM, pretty simple. When Wilshire plays further forwards, which is his natural role, he's a very dangerous player.

Ramsey looks a shadow of the player pre-injury though, before injury he was closer to Fabregas/Wilshire, get the ball, turn into space, pass inteligently, since he got back from loan he's been slow on the ball, passing badly, turning INTO trouble and losing it constantly in stupid places.

As for Young, yes, half(probably more) of the Utd AND Liverpool fans were saying Young really wasn't that good and 20mil would be a waste, he wouldn't start..... wouldn't start ahead of Valencia and was no where near as good as Nani...... they were very very very wrong.

He is there, he just wasn't playing an attacking role last season, he looked more dangerous for England as he plays a more attacking role, more of a CM than AM/DM and in preseason he looked VERY dangerous as he did at Bolton and anytime before that loan.

I Still think Cahill would vastly improve your defence and help fix it. Regarding Arshavin i haven't seen all your games as i dont watch them all but the times i have seen them Arshavin has never stood out so ill have to take your word for it since you watch them more than i do.

Just to point out as a liverpool supporter i never said Young wasn't worth the money(Im 99% sure i didnt anyway) but i cant complain about Downing he has been ace for us so in ideal world i would have picked em both

Are you Paul Merson? He was saying exactly the same thing about everyone seeing it except Arsene and he looked like he would explode after the game, especially whenever Gary Neville opened his mouth:D
