Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [28th - 30th December 2019]

**** VAR.

It says something that the loudest chant at every game I've been to this season is a toss up between "**** VAR" or "It's not football anymore".

Absolute joke of an implementation, if I'd have made such a mess of something at work I'd have been sacked long ago.

A big let off for Vertonghen there. What on earth was he doing? It was almost as if he didn't know Pukki was there, he just backed off expecting the ball to fall to him.

Unfortunately VAR is here to stay.

It might be years (if ever) until it's implemented properly.

Until then, its hindering football as an entertainment rather than helping it.

VAR says he’s offside because he came back onside from an offside position.

do they even know the rules of the game?

edit: apparently not lol, seems like they’re making it up

The VAR jobsworths can't even get their story straight.

The more they show me that image with the lines the more angry I get, Pukki's feet are about half a yard deeper than Vertonghen he's had to cover more distance to get to the ball. Offside my buttocks the rules are flawed.

They need better cameras for the offside decisions, unless they do have higher FPS cameras which don't get broadcast.

Absolute farce is VAR. This angled line across the pitch has no bearing. What does the higher red line mean compared to the blue line. I can see from my armchair without my glasses that's not the correct line.

These offside calls aren't really a VAR issue though. Offsides will always be a matter of fact decision and under the current laws and with the current technology (people will claim it's not 100% accurate but it's far more accurate than a lino's eyesight), if you're leaning 1mm offside then it's offside.

The issues we're having with these offside calls isn't VAR but the laws in their current format. Imo they need to scrap the 'any part of the body that can play the ball' bit and just use foot positions.

Yep, said it earlier any decision that warrants drawing lines they should just go with onfield (linesman) decision like in cricket.

I mentioned it yesterday that VAR has completely killed the game for me can confirm unless I get more games on Amazon for free I won't be attracted back to watching football because I'm not paying to watch this crap served up anymore
