Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [28th April - 2nd May 2012]

Weirdest team in the prem! Even the terrible motd pundits have no idea how a team that looses 9 on the trot turns it round against the top teams to stay up

It's unbelievable what they do, I don't think anybody can explain what they do. All I can come up with is that they either do it because they enjoy the relegation battle or they're the ultimate trolls :p.

NOBODY would have said that they would stay up looking at who they had to play when they were rock bottom of the table.

Suarez isn't a clinical or instinctive finisher. Give him the ball and he'll take on 3 or 4 players and set up shot after shot but he's never going to be a 30+ a season striker in the Premiership. What he could be is an assist machine if played behind an out and out goal scorer. Today he was exceptional in front of goal, more often than not he wastes chance after chance. Hopefully with better players around him he'll have to overplay less meaning he'll get on the score sheet more.

*If he played a defence that shockingly poor ever week.... :p

What do you mean? He constantly gets easier goal scoring opportunities than all of those and just doesn't finish, goes past most defences with ease.

Also, the better than perfect hat trick? Right, left, half way line?

I disagree, he is an instinctive finisher. When he plays instinctively he's a far better finisher than when he's got time to think about things. It's when he's got time, he tries to over complicate things or goes for spectacular finishes when he doesn't need to (like the miss earlier in the 2nd half). If and when he cuts that out of his game, he'll score bagfuls of goals because he's got all the ability in the world.

Agreed, but it's not easy to become a clinical finisher.

I love how Kenny Dalglish still can't give a straight answer to even the completely bland question of "did you enjoy Suarez's third goal?" :D

Haha! They have had a fair few very good defensive displays, just the Liverpool game today was really really poor from Norwich, the first two games are big Norwich mistakes and the first is not much better...

He's a good striker, had a fair bit of hard work for the goals, but Norwich made it easy for him today, terrible marking, no closing down and a lot of mistakes.

Also the perfect hattrick is left, right then header :p (that or 3 against a rival)

:D yeah football league show has made me smile to see the saints in the dressing room loving it so much! (Guly man of the match for that first cross and running the midfield)

Also why as Carlton Cole not done that all season (his second goal). That's a master class in how to be a massive target man, but with a decent amount of skill to actually hammer it in...

I agree, you're either a goal scorer or you're not and Suarez isn't. That's not to say he wont go mental one year and score 30+ because plenty of strikers or a much lesser ability have done that in the past but I certainly dont see it ever being a regular occurance.

That said how many regular 30 goal a season strikers are there in the PL? Rooney's done it twice, Drogba's done it twice and probably wont ever do it again, RVP's only done it once. I think they said on MOTD that Suarez now has 16 in all comps, if he can get 20 in all comps every season then that's not that bad, it's just highlighted at the moment because everyone else in a Liverpool shirt is even worse than Suarez at putting the ball in the back of the net :p

I'm not sure it's that hard either. I think he just needs a bit of direction. I think that's something that applies to the attacking side of our game as a whole. We've not found a system or a position for Suarez that gets the best out of him and is best for the side.

When we find a settled system and when somebody tells him to stop ****ing around when he's one on one with the keeper, the goals will fly in.

League is over 38 games, Blackburn/QPR/Bolton/Villa would kill for Wigans form right now.

Finishing is a question of temperament as much as technique though, and Suarez is some way off having a cool head. That's why I think it's hard to teach.

I partly agree, I agree that often finishing isn't all to do with technical ability with the football. I think composure under pressure is as much to do it. I think Suarez has all the attributes technically to score a lot more goals, but I think he would still benefit hugely from having a natural finisher next to him.

If Suarez was snatching at chances or didn't look confident when in front of goal then I'd have that worry. His problem is he's over confident and he tries to score the perfect goal too often.

So tomorrow John "i am not that sort of bloke, but I shag teams mates girlfriends, innocent until proven guilty racist, knees players in the back" Terry will be playing against Anton Ferdinand

Hope both Spurs and Chelsea win

He just needs better composure, to stay calm and slot it away when the chance presents itself, not over complicate it.

He needs somebody to give him a kick up the arse. His 3rd goal today was incredible but I hope somebody has said to him that he shouldn't have taken the shot on (Gerrard had a clear run through on goal had he passed it to him) and I hope somebody had a word with him for trying a cheeky chip when he had a simple chance earlier in the game too.
