Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [28th December 2014 - 1st January 2015]

Good first half, absolutely shocking second. Burnley really should have won it.

Putting Armstrong on so early was a mistake. Riviere was playing well, and while Armstrong is promising he clearly isn't ready to lead the line in a Premier League match.

Wrong starting XI from the beginning from Wenger. Chambers should never have been put in that DM role. Bringing Theo on to sit on the left was a move of ridiculous idiocy he has always been dreadful on the left and can only ever come in from the right to shoot across the face of goal and who knows why he wasn't put on the right switching The Ox to left or even send him through the middle and switch Alexis to the flank.

Sending Akpom on was about as useful as putting Wenger on himself. Defence was horrific and Szczesny was awful. Didn't deserve a thing from that game and it was a fantastic opportunity completely and utterly wasted.

Absolutely furious!

who else could have played in that dm role? flamini and arteta are out mate

Disgraceful start to the 2nd half. The whole attitude was summed up by the Lallana sub - it looked like he was ok to carry on but the game was over in our players and managers mind so he came off and we put Borini in the shop window.

For all the talk of how composed we were at the back, maybe we were a bit too composed in the first 15 minutes of the 2nd half. The first goal was a nice strike but it was far too easy - nobody made a challenge. Can should have been closer and not allowed the lay-off and somebody's got to challenge Nugent for the strike. And it was the same story for the 2nd goal - Lucas gets beaten far too easily on the wing, Sterling and Henderson were both in no mans land not knowing whether to pick up their LM and in the end nobody did but again one of the CB's has got to close the shot down better.
and Hendersen, and Allen and any one you want to put him with in the middle. The problem is Gerrard

Which side of the midfield did both Leicester's goals come from? Who was it Leicester passed the ball around for the opening goal and then gets walked past for the 2nd?

At least you didn't lose, Liverpool. #progress
Outplayed by the bottom of the table team at Anfield is not acceptable.

One of Gerrard or Rodgers needs to leave in January.

Gerrard not closing down Nugent was a disgrace. Penaltypool are crap
He doesn't have the legs to do it which is amusing considering Rodgers has criticised Balotelli for not pressing opponents and not suiting our style of football.

I don't even know why they're bottom of the table, I mean they're a capable team, they absolutely wrecked the Championship, they've got some potentially ace players for the future too. They just seem to have been very unlucky with results.

That has to be one of the worst second half displays I've seen us play. Also 3 of the strangest substitutions you're likely to ever see. Maybe even worse than the 3 Pardew made against Reading. Genuinely baffled to why anyone would bring on Willo for Taylor and not just throw Dummett at CB and bring on Haidara. Dummett really isn't a fullback, at all.

Carver is still only an extension of Pardew's AIDS and quite clearly isn't good enough to manage a PL team long term, but everyone with at least 1 braincell knew that going in.

Alnwick and Willo flogged to League One sides and replacements signed in January please.

Bless, galloping along to save Gerrards honor. He's ****e, deal with it

nemitzz we only sell the good players, we keep the dross. Colo is garbage too, he cannot read the game at all, he's so thick it's embarassing.

No actual response there, just like the seasons before last, always one or two scapegoats for a team that is doing poorly with poor performances all around

He may be **** but I'm starting to think you're full of it too. That's actually not quite true, I've known for a while that you're just a blagger that comes out with random nonsense that he can't back up.

Can you not come up with any actual constructive posts rather than your usual scapegoating bs?

While Gerrard most certainly is past his best, he's still going to be getting into our side when Lucas is the only alternative. It's a calculated decision to play Gerrard - you know he's not going to be rock solid defensively but you hope the attacking contribution will make up for it. With Lucas you've got nothing - he doesn't contribute offensively and he can't do the defensive work that he's supposed to be being picked for.

In each of the games Lucas has been picked for up to and including the Stoke/Leicester games the other month, Lucas has been responsible for a goal or a clear chance on goal against us because he's simply can't do his job any more.

Lucas is still capable of making the odd mistake but I'd take that over a player that can't press, doesn't have any stamina and regularly moves out of position in chase of the ball. The former might cost us a goal now and then, the latter hurts the balance of the entire team and leaves the defence open to attacks through the middle which will cost us more goals in the long run.

The odd mistake? Didn't track Sig for Swansea's goal, diabolical vs Burnley, didn't track Carzola for Arsenal's 2nd goal (he gave away a 10 yard start and wasn't in the picture when Carzola makes the cut back), in absolute no mans land allowing Gosling to break into our box to score for Bournemouth, Leicester away - identical to their 2nd today, Stoke at home - same again gets walked past like he's not there when pulled out wide in a 1 on 1 but fortunately Bojan misses a great chance. And today, get's pulled out wide and the winger walks past him.

The single reason Lucas is being picked is for his defensive work yet every game he's failing to do it. Maybe if he offered us something else then you could excuse it but he doesn't. He gives possession away more than any other midfielder we've got despite playing far fewer ambitious passes too. What's he in the team for?

edit: furthermore, you can't even just say his legs have gone as his excuse anymore. Watch Swansea's, Arsenal's 2nd and the Bournemouth goals again and it's not that he hasn't been able to get there in time, he's just completely oblivious to running off the back of him.
