Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [28th December 2014 - 1st January 2015]

Referee's are scared to give any decision that could be seen as controversial, then again, there are referee's who clearly see things nobody else does.

Everton are terrible.

The officials had a collective shocker today. There were so many poor decisions, at least a few in each game. I think there's got to be more help offered to the officials, they do make some dreadful decisions but they have a very tough job. There has to be video reviews or fourth official input to help the ref, it's more than time for it.

The Green decision is terrible. Henry was lucky to stay on for that tackle in my opinion, terrible tackle.

I do not think that the referee’s need more help yet; firstly they need to be consistent in their decision making, secondly they need to get the basic things right, thirdly they need to use the other officials more.

Not watched highlights, did they actually show what Routledge got sent off for? As with you I thought it was a terrible tackle on him by Henry that was borderline red card. Now he reacted but from a stream it didn't look to me like he did anything but turn around and shove him a bit while both still down, he then got up. I did wonder if he put a little tiny kick in right after he stood up but it wasn't clear at all.

Basically did they clear up at all exactly what he got sent off for?

Yep, all he did was push him. Keown and Savage said they thought it would be rescinded although Keown appears to think along the same lines as me and anything that doesn't hospitalise an opponent isn't really worth worrying about or punishing so he could be wrong.

It looked like he gave Henry a little kick having pushed him slightly. I guess by the letter of the law you could argue that it was a red for the reaction, but Henry's challenge was shocking and he should have been punished too.

I agree that the decision making is very inconsistent, but refs are under lots of pressure and often have a split-second to make a decision. There ought to be more input from the fourth official. I don't know what's so bad about letting the fourth official have a monitor next to him that he can quickly review and relay a decision to the ref. That or have someone up in a booth somewhere that does a quick review. With that Rob Green handball today someone would have only needed one replay to confirm that it was a handball outside the area, and the ref could have then made the correct decision.

I'd rather there be one or two more breaks in play if it means refs get the big decisions right, at least then managers, fans and players couldn't moan about the officials after every game. It's no coincidence that in the sports that have video replays there is little to no discussion of decisions made by the officials.

The tackle by Henry was horrible. I no longer think it was a borderline red card and I am now of the opinion it should have been a straight red, no question about that.

As for the reaction, it pretty much went down like Pigeon_Killer said; it was not a reaction worthy of a red card, and I do not think the kick out warranted a red. It should have been a red card for Henry and a yellow for Routeldge.

Amazing that Chadli has only scored one less goal in the league than Hazard. I really like him but I'm astounded at his level of output compared to a world class player.

decent squad player for £7m. his physique is probably the closest we have to bale. he's not an astonishing player by a long shot but he's fearless at times and defenders find him hard to handle when he's running at pace and his movement in the box is decent. he's scored against arsenal and chelsea so he's ok in my eyes.

I think he is more than a squad player - his drive to get o
In the box compliments Eriksen's guile and creates room for others.

yeh he's a decent player. looking at the highlights, it's clear we've worked on our finishing. every shot angled low into the corner, some not at a fantastic pace either tbf. it could be purely how it played out but i believe kanes and chadlis goals were partly down to the keeper being unsighted too. kanes second goal, he delays, whether that's to let the defender step into the keepers line of sight is purely an optomistic guess but if that's something they've worked on the training ground, it definitely paid off.
