Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [28th December 2014 - 1st January 2015]

Is it possible for anyone in the media to mention Harry Kane without the additional ‘Local lad’?

I wonder what Mourinho’s excuse will be this time? An excuse that will inevitably be swallowed by the media and the performance, or real issues will be ignored. The media are so simple and fall for it every time.

Absolutely no pressure on Harry Kane, he is only the next Sheringham, Klinsmann, Shearer or potentially Henry.

Does it really matter - its a one off, and Chelsea are still odds on to win the title

Forgetting The Invincibles for a moment, Chelsea still probably have one of the best teams the EPL has ever seen (from experience, skill set, and general "credit" in the game and managerial experience).

Player for player it would be interesting to see who would win out of Chelsea today vs Invincibles back in the day (if its even comparable given the changes in the game since)

(no disrespect to Spurs who had a fantastic game and fully deserved the result, but not convinced they have proven anything long term let alone if they are able to keep their best players).

I like that MoTD highlighted the work Eriksen does to influence play despite not seeing much of the ball early on. He gets accused of not dominating games or imposing himself but that isnt his style of play. He pulled Magic all over the place today which allowed us to run directly at the cumbersome Terry and Cahill.

He is qwalaTEEEEEEE.

Never thought i'd see Gerrard leave Liverpool

He has been terrible for large periods this season though. If he stayed on it would only be through loyalty from both him and the club.

Personally, I was half expecting him to stay on for next season, make a handful of cameo appearances before his retirement, only for the club to retire his shirt number.

True, but he's just one of those rare breed who you naturally associate their name with a club. He IS Liverpool. I reckon he'll go to New York.

Gotta love Frank Lampard. They just said how he won City points, which is not the kind of thing I would usually agree with, but in his case it is more true tbh. He basically comes on to have shots, almost always gets them on target, and scores really important goals.

What has Mourinho’s Chelsea won this time round?

While you can discuss the merits and quality of the individual players, football is not played on paper, and the discussion falls flat as soon as you mention trophies. The discussion of the ‘best teams the EPL has ever seen’ can only really be had once this side has won some trophies.

There is absolutely no doubt that the first team at Chelsea is wonderful, however, they need to win trophies to concrete themselves as a great side.

I honestly do not care where he goes, but I think it would be a shame for him to leave Liverpool.

Football has changed; the notion of a player staying at one club their entire career is rare. Gerrard has, as mentioned, become synonymous with Liverpool. I think it would be a nice tribute to retire his number and offer him a one year, pre retirement contract.

That was an absolutely hilarious decision to award the first penalty. There is absolutely no way that the first was a penalty.
